About David & Stu... Unhinged!

“David & Stu . . . Unhinged!” offers a unique glimpse into the world's most pressing (and most trivial) issues through the eyes of two of Greenwich Village’s jaded residents, who are usually pissed off about something. From allowing people to legally sh** on our sidewalks to "discrimination" against fat people, David Simonetti, a writer and attorney, and Stu Richel, a critically acclaimed actor, screenwriter, and Vietnam War vet, offer an acerbic yet civilized perspective on politics and life in New York City. Occasionally veering into the abyss of rage, like Stu's unbridled contempt for Jane Fonda and David's rage about those who ask for ice cream samples, the duo from two different generations will enchant you with their common-sense reactions speckled with off-the-rails humor, anger, and dismay.

111: Corsmell’s Mess, Woke Parenting, Demented Diplomacy, & Smith’s Warning

Welcome to David & Stu… Unhinged! As always, we'd like to thank Clara Wang for creating the fantastic artwork for this podcast. This week on David & Stu Unhinged, we cover the reemergence of gang rape allegations on Cornell University’s campus, woke parenting gone wild, Trump’s bizarre suggestion that he would sell arms to China, and Jack Smith’s compelling testimony before the Senate, highlighting Trump’s myriad criminal offenses. Corsmell’s Mess: Cornell University champions safety, inclusion, and accountability, but its response to serious rape allegations brings into question whether Cornell’s actions match those values. We will examine the reopened investigation into the alleged 2024 Chi Phi fraternity gang rape, the New York law behind it, and Cornell’s troubling history of student misconduct. As a Cornell Law graduate, Stu finds this incident deeply saddening. Woke Parenting: Nikole Hannah-Jones’ decision to enroll her daughter in a struggling Brooklyn public school was intended to reflect her commitment to educational integration, but the experience exposed serious academic shortcomings that left her daughter unprepared for a more rigorous high school. We discuss whether parents should ever allow political ideals to outweigh a child’s educational needs and why failing New York City public schools must be held accountable regardless of funding, poverty, or segregation. Demented Diplomacy: Did President Trump really offer to sell American weapons to mainland China? His own ambassador said yes, but then Trump denied this and finally indicated that it might be a good idea. And MAGA still can’t stop harping about Biden’s dementia as President. As usual, Trump’s random thoughts display how oblivious he is to reality, since there is a legal prohibition on such sales, a stalled $14 billion arms package for Taiwan, and his bizarre statements caused alarm among America’s allies. What is that man thinking, or is he even capable of reasoning in his demented and diminished state? Smith’s Warning: Former Special Counsel Jack Smith’s testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee this week showed that Donald Trump committed serious crimes to overturn an election he lost and then obstructed justice after hoarding classified documents. Yet Trump escaped a jury’s judgment by winning back the presidency, regaining control of the Justice Department, and turning the government against the prosecutors who dared investigate him. As Republican senators smeared Smith instead of confronting the evidence, the hearing revealed a sickening inversion of justice where this disgusting diaper-wearing demented president is not held accountable for his myriad crimes, while those who tried to hold him accountable became the targets. 110: Trish’s Gambit, Trigger Finger, Grief Vultures, & Sully’s Plea

Welcome to David & Stu… Unhinged! As always, we'd like to thank Clara Wang for creating the fantastic artwork for this podcast. This week on David & Stu Unhinged, we cover Trish James’ outrageous holdback of funds from an order of nuns dedicated to charity, a hunting accident that resulted in death, Patrick Clancy’s heartbreaking 60 Minutes interview, and Sully’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis. Trish’s Gambit: Letitia James, the incompetent DL NY State Attorney General, has tried to pull another power grab, as noted by her office’s handling of proceeds from the sale of the Jeanne d’Arc Residence, a longtime Manhattan home for young women operated by the Sisters of the Congregation of Divine Providence. Although Tish approved the sale, $19.3 million remains tied up as Tish and her team of thugs question whether the funds will be used for charitable purposes. The dispute raises broader questions about Tish’s oversight of religious charities, political double standards, and whether a group that served New York for more than a century should have to fight to use its own money for continuing charitable work. Trigger Finger: 39-year-old Santos Maria Chilel Soto was walking across an open field in Delaware, got mistaken for a deer, and was shot dead by a hunter, 74-year-old Walter Moorhead. Moorhead is now facing manslaughter and reckless endangerment charges due to his failure to adhere to basic hunting-safety rules. Grief Vultures: Patrick Clancy’s 60 Minutes interview was a devastating look at a father trying to survive the loss of his three children. He described returning home to an unimaginable scene, holding his youngest son as he died, and rebuilding a life that will never be whole again. Meanwhile, social influencers, most notably Lisa Rinna, a has been reality show slut, have turned his grief into gossip, with Rinna amplifying reckless accusations that Patrick murdered his children, not his ex-wife Lindsey. Rinna and others like her should be burned on a stake for their moral depravity and pay a heavy price for their cruelty. Instead, Patrick’s attorney is now reportedly considering legal action against these disgusting degenerates. Sully’s Plea: Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger is an Air Force veteran, aviation safety expert, and pilot who became a national hero after safely landing US Airways Flight 1549 on the Hudson River. In a recent interview, he revealed he has Alzheimer’s disease and spoke calmly and with humility. He didn’t ask for pity, but instead, he urged others to seek early testing and treatment. It was a quiet, powerful plea from a man who has spent his life leading by example, and unlike some alleged leaders, he did it without demanding that anyone put his name on a building. 109: Fishy Business, Hot Mess, Fertittas’ Play & Putin’s Dowry

Welcome to David & Stu… Unhinged! As always, we'd like to thank Clara Wang for creating the fantastic artwork for this podcast. This week on David & Stu Unhinged, we cover the overfishing of menhaden by greedy corporate interests, debunk the Trump mantra that America is the “hottest country” in the world, discuss the supposed generosity of the Fertitta brothers, and conclude with the tawdry sleaze of Donald Jr.'s latest wedding. Fishy Business: Most have probably never heard of the menhaden, but the ocean depends on them. For generations, Indigenous peoples used this tiny Atlantic fish as fertilizer, while ospreys and other predators depended on it for food. Today, millions are harvested commercially by Omega Protein and Ocean Harvesters. But due to overfishing by greedy corporate interests, this delicate ecological balance is being upended. Hot Mess: Trump’s claims that America is the “hottest country” in the world and that he has secured trillions in new global investment, but the numbers tell a very different story. We have a soaring national debt, enormous projected deficits, tariffs are fueling inflation and slowing growth, and global investors are becoming skeptical about U.S. debt and the dollar. So much for making America great again. Fertittas’ Play: Station Casinos is marking its 50th anniversary by awarding more than $70 million in Red Rock Resorts stock to nearly 10,000 full- and part-time employees, which amounts to $1,000 for every year of service. The casino owners, Frank and Lorenzo Fertitta, will still retain roughly 90% of its voting power and are longtime financial supporters of Donald Trump. In this episode, we examine how employee ownership, corporate control, labor relations, and political influence converge in a distinctly Las Vegas story. Putin’s Dowry: Donald Trump Jr.’s splashy Bahamas wedding celebration was apparently bankrolled by a Russian oligarch with ties to Vladimir Putin. After years of MAGA outrage over Hunter Biden and influence-peddling, the Trumps now appear to have their own foreign-gift problem. This story reeks of hypocrisy, not to mention grave national security issues. We hope you tune in, and please leave comments. We welcome all feedback, including any critiques.
