“David & Stu . . . Unhinged!” offers a unique glimpse into the world's most pressing (and most trivial) issues through the eyes of two of Greenwich Village’s jaded residents, who are usually pissed off about something. From allowing people to legally sh** on our sidewalks to "discrimination" against fat people, David Simonetti, a writer and attorney, and Stu Richel, a critically acclaimed actor, screenwriter, and Vietnam War vet, offer an acerbic yet civilized perspective on politics and life in New York City. Occasionally veering into the abyss of rage, like Stu's unbridled contempt for Jane Fonda and David's rage about those who ask for ice cream samples, the duo from two different generations will enchant you with their common-sense reactions speckled with off-the-rails humor, anger, and dismay.

100: Stu’s Pride, NYC Blues, Badge Karma & a 250th Reckoning

Welcome to David & Stu… Unhinged! As always, we'd like to thank Clara Wang for creating the fantastic artwork for this podcast.

This week on David & Stu Unhinged, we celebrate our 100th episode yet lament America’s precipitous decline and Stu’s disappointment over NYC’s Pride festivities, yet we can still celebrate the few New Yorkers left with an ounce of character, but the majority of New Yorkers don't view the city as #1 anymore.

Stu’s Pride: Stu offers his take on New York City’s annual Gay Pride Parade, which was part celebration, part civic spectacle, but mostly a nightmare for residents in Greenwich Village. But what set Stu over the edge was the absence of bikes during the Dykes on Bikes march, which really calls for Mayor Mamdani to form a task force before New York loses yet another piece of its glorious annual tradition.

NYC Blues:. New York has officially lost its swagger, with only 29% of residents still calling it the greatest city in the world. Kathy Hochul, Zohran Mamdani, and the entire Democrat establishment that runs this state have managed the impressive feat of making a city with Wall Street, Broadway, Central Park, and a $100 billion budget feel like an overpriced collective hell with no hope of quick turnaround and now New Yorkers are losing faith in the future of this city. What a disgrace!

Badge Karma: Years after an off-duty NYPD officer saved an injured driver’s life, the story comes full circle when that same driver joins the NYPD to “give back” and reunites with the officer at Police Academy graduation. It is a genuinely touching bit of New York heroism and proof that there are still some in NYC who chose public service over becoming a TikTok life coach.

A 250th Reckoning: America’s 250th anniversary is more of a national wake-up call rather than a celebration, as the country faces deep fiscal, political, social, and moral decline. Trump’s failed presidency is both a symptom and an accelerant of that decay. It is rather tragic that America still has enormous power and resources but increasingly lacks the civic character and political will to solve its own problems. With this kind of track record, another 250 years doesn’t seem possible.

We hope you tune in, and please leave comments. 99: Dowager Summer, No Horsing Around, Toilet Renaissance & Birthing Eugenics

Welcome to David & Stu… Unhinged! As always, we'd like to thank Clara Wang for creating the fantastic artwork for this podcast.

This week on David & Stu Unhinged, we dive into four stories that usher in the beginning of summer with a discussion of a visit to Italy, Central Park’s horse and buggy issue, toilet seat installation in public bathrooms, and the ethics of prenatal testing.

Dowager Summer: David has returned from Sardinia and Rome only to discover that re-entering America may be the most dangerous adventure of the entire trip. From pink sand beaches, sublime Italian food, Henry James, and Rome's cat-filled Protestant Cemetery to a strategic refusal to spend 2.5 hours alone in a kayak, David reflects on reclaiming his Italian heritage after it was denied to him here in America due to his parents' ill-advised attempt to assimilate into the WASP establishment.

No Horsing Around: A recent Central Park carriage incident is once again blowing up the debate over these horses after one got spooked, took off out of control, and slammed into another carriage, flipping it and throwing passengers. Tragically, an 18-year-old tourist was killed. This incident raised the question of whether this practice should be maintained or banned.

Toilet Renaissance: The MTA announced this week that it has installed toilet seats in subway station bathrooms after an Inspector General audit found that more than a quarter of the toilets inspected were missing them. The audit also uncovered other basic maintenance issues, including missing soap, toilet paper, and working locks. While the headline is funny, it is no reason for the MTA to celebrate since this incident raises broader questions about how poorly this state manages its public infrastructure.

Birthing Eugenics: Stu discusses the relationship between advances in prenatal testing and the declining number of babies born with Down syndrome. This trend raises real ethical questions about choice, medical progress, and what society values, and it’s one that deserves exploration and its societal impact.

We hope you tune in, and please leave comments. 98: David’s In and Out List, a Dive Bar for the Ages, NYC Restaurant Hell, & Corporate Stu

Welcome to David & Stu… Unhinged! As always, we'd like to thank Clara Wang for creating the fantastic artwork for this podcast.

In this video episode of David & Stu Unhinged, the topics covered are the following:

1. Instead of offering New Year’s resolutions, David discusses his In’s and Out's, which is a time-tested list of his preferences from year to year, including his belief that it is a New Yorker’s god-given right to complain about NYC while refusing to live anywhere else and his complete and utter disdain for the nepo babies who have congregated in the Village and wait in long lines for bagels and croissants.

2. Stu, to no one’s surprise, will take a look back at a dive bar for the ages as he recounts his times nostalgically at the Holland Bar in Hell’s Kitchen, a place the late Anthony Bourdain described as "a classic old-man bar a couple doors down from Siberia. You know, the kind of place it’s okay to drink during the day.”

3. David and Stu have had a vigorous debate about Stu’s questionable restaurant choices, but David now acknowledges that Stu may have a point about trendy places in NYC flocked by celebrities and influencers and recommends avoiding places like Carbone, Balthazar and Via Carota.

4. Before Stu went into the creative field, he was a lawyer and worked as a corporate cubicle slave at the illustrious General Electric Company. After his illustrious time in law school, Stu was able to secure a position at GE, and he will recount the unusual circumstances behind him being hired.

We hope you tune in, and please leave comments. We welcome all feedback, including any critiques.

Connect with David & Stu:

• Subscribe to our YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/@DavidStu...Unhinged

• Email David & Stu: davidandstuunhinged@gmail.com and share your comments, concerns, and questions.

• We encourage all to visit our website (https://www.rageworksnetwork.com/show/david-stu-unhinged/), and please leave comments for our consideration.
