Het is 24 juli. De finale van zwemcoach Patrick Pearson. Althans, van één van zijn pupillen. Pearson is als topcoach bij de KNZB al jaren één van de steunpilaren van het Nederlandse topzwemmen. En als coach verantwoordelijk voor de begeleiding van de Oranje kanshebbers tijdens de Spelen. Dat deed hij in het verleden onder andere voor drievoudig Olympisch kampioen Ranomi Kromowidjojo. In Tokio staan er zeven zwemmers onder zijn supervisie. Zeven zwemmers met hoop op een gouden finale.

Het is de 24 juli. De finale van Dimeo van der Horst. De finale bij het 3x3 basketbal. Hij was 16 jaar oud toen hij als jongste Nederlander ooit een contract afdwong in het profbasketbal. Dertien jaar later staat het vizier op de eerste Olympische Spelen ooit waar 3x3 basketbal gespeeld zal worden. Dat betekent geschiedenis schrijven. En helemaal wanneer je goud wint. #5 - Madelein Meppelink
Het is 8 augustus. De finale van Madelein Meppelink. Al jaren één van de beste beachvolleybalsters ter wereld. Ze was erbij in Londen en Rio. In Tokio mag ze voor de derde keer spelen op het hoogste niveau mogelijk. En voor de derde keer met een andere partner. Haar huidige partner Sanne Keizer was jarenlang één van haar belangrijkste concurrenten. Nu ze samen spelen staan ze standaard in de top 8 wereldwijd.
