On sunday the 27th of march we welcomed Bolu Bablola & Eliza Anyangwe in De Nieuwe Liefde. This is an edited audiostream of the event. Pop culture expert, bestselling author and self-named romcommoiseur Bolu Babalola talks to writer and editor Eliza Anyangwe about the important of African female storytellers as well as the genre of Black love stories as counternarratives, and the preservation of folktales and oral traditions. In her short story collection Love in Colour Bolu Babalola explores how the power of love has been expressed within a variety of cultures from around the world. “I pay homage to the textures of each original tale while also adapting them to fit a new, modern age. Sprookjes En De Moderne Liefde
Met welke (liefdes)cliché’s zadelen sprookjes ons op? Het is de klassieke sprookjesformule: vrouw (liefst prinses) in nood wacht op man (liefst prins) om haar te redden. Onze hulpeloze heldin wordt bevrijd, ontwaakt, of krijgt benen dankzij voorgenoemde man. Sneeuwwitje, Doornroosje en De kleine zeemeermin passen allemaal dit schoentje. Maar wat zien we als we op een moderne manier naar sprookjes kijken? En welke rol speelt de verhouding tussen moeder en dochter? Vanavond leggen we de verbanden tussen oeroude sprookjesfiguren en hedendaagse man-vrouw verhoudingen, beginnende vanuit de relatie van het kind met de ouders. De motieven en gedragingen van onze prinsessen in nood en hun charmante tegenspelers zijn interessante spiegels voor onze ideeën over de liefde anno nu. Psychoanalyticus Carl Jung zei het al: de prins die je komt redden, kan je ook zien als een geëmancipeerd onderdeel van je eigen psyché. Deze avond laat het (voor)onderzoek van de voorstelling Liebe Jelinek van Maatschappij Discordia zien, de inspiraties en bedenkingen geïnspireerd op het werk van Nobelprijs-winnares Elfriede Jelinek. Van haar onder andere de volgende provocatie: ‘Liefde kan alleen bestaan tussen gelijken en is daarom onmogelijk tussen man en vrouw, jammer dat ik niet lesbisch ben.’ Maaike Meijer (literatuurwetenschapper) start de avond met een korte lezing over nieuwe en oude sprookjes: onze geliefde Disney-sprookjes stammen vaak af van oude Griekse mythes. Ook zoomt ze in op de moeder-dochter relaties en wat dit doet bij het vrouwelijke personage doet qua ideeën over emancipatie en huwelijk. We wisselen korte informatieve praatjes af met voordracht van gloednieuw verzonnen sprookjes door de drie leden van Maatschappij Discordia: Sara de Bosschere (Vlaamse actrice, De Roovers), Annette Kouwenhoven (actrice Maatschappij Discordia) en Miranda Prein (theatermaker Maatschappij Discordia). Verder komt Rajae El Mouhandiz vertellen over niet-westerse sprookjes.

Fietsfabels - El Tarangu, Frank Heinen en het wielerzweet
Altijd al afgevraagd wat er nu juist zo spannend is aan de wielersport? Vanavond duiken we in de vele mysteries van het wielrennen en luisteren we naar heerlijke verhalen, plus een spannende podcast. Wielrennen. Voor niet-ingewijden lijkt het… de allersaaiste sport? Toch is er geen andere die schrijvers, muzikanten en poëten zó heeft weten te inspireren. Ook podcastmakers ontdekten de charme van de wielerheroïek. Door het luisteren naar de podcast El Tarangu van AudioCollectief SCHIK raakte Vlaanderen en Nederland in de ban van de mythe rond José Manuel Fuente, de Spaanse wielerlegende die jarenlang dood werd gewaand, toen plots opdook voor een biertje met zijn rivaal om vervolgens weer met de noorderzon te vertrekken. Dit soort haast mythische gebeurtenissen uit de wielersport verdienen extra aandacht: tijd voor een duikje in de magie van wielrennen. Nele Eeckhout, Siona Houthuys en Mirke Kist van AudioCollectief SCHIK (bekend van o.a. BOB en Laura H.) zijn present om toe te lichten hoe ze precies de levensloop van deze wielerlegende omtoverden tot een spannende podcastserie, een ware whodunnit. Frank Heinen praat met ons mee over het schrijven van een literair sportverhaal, en hoe sport en literatuur hand in hand kunnen gaan. Zijn boek ‘Uit Koers’, een bundeling verhalen over bijzondere wielerlevens, werd door Het Parool geprezen als ‘een van de beste vijf sportboeken van 2014’. Verder komt Pieter-Jan De Smet, Vlaamse zanger, acteur en wielerfanaat, ons verblijden met Vlaamse fietsliedjes. Schrijver, radiomaker en docent Dennis Gaens zal de avond modereren.
