<p>Het katholieke geloof is een belangrijk thema in het werk van de in Limburg wonende Agata Siwek (Polen, 1972). In De Barmhartige Bever, een zelfgebouwde kapel in de tentoonstelling ‘It’s Not A Joke’, creëert ze een absurdistisch verhaal rondom een eeuwenoud symbool dat in Limburg overal in het landschap is te zien: een kruisbeeld. “Zo’n kruisbeeld, een buitenaards wezen dat hier landt zou er niks van snappen: iemand die gemarteld wordt als symbool van liefde.” 14 kruiswegstaties tonen hoe een bever Jezus bevrijdt en hem helpt nieuwe kleren te bestellen. Uiteindelijk trekt Jezus de wijde wereld in, op weg naar een menswaardig bestaan. Een gesprek over de grens tussen realiteit en kunst met Agata Siwek, kunstenaar Willem de Haan en curator Sjors Bindels.</p>
