Podcast Overview

Welcome to the Dead Dad's Club (The DDC) - the club that nobody wants to join, but somehow we all did. We are 5 friends, who've known each other for over 15 years, and we all lost our Dads before turning 30. What started as a safe space and support system between friends, turned into a podcast, where we talk about grief, life, memories and everything in between. Expect trauma responses, dark humour, questionable advice and the occasional emotional moment. This space is for honest and real chats, shared experiences, and to expand our safe space to others who might be going through the same. Trigger warning: Conversations of grief, death, trauma & dark humour. Find us on instagram for more @deadads.club

2 Weddings & 5 Funerals (Part 1)

This week, the DDC talk about all things funerals. The girls open up about their personal experiences — the expectations vs reality, the unhinged comments from others, the beige buffet food whilst completely dissociating, and the emotions that came with navigating such a difficult day.

Some of the DDC remember every little detail of the funeral, whilst for others it’s a complete blur. Some fixated on the finer details of funeral planning as a way to help them make it through the day. Although all of the girls experienced funerals differently, there were also shared feelings and similarities that connected them all — which are explored throughout this episode.

There’s laughter, dark humour, moments of reflection, and most importantly a whole lot of DDC love whilst sharing these experiences together.

If you’re wondering what the funeral process may look like, or you’ve sadly already experienced it yourself and found yourself wondering “was that normal?” — this episode is for you 🤍

As always, please take care whilst listening. This episode contains discussions surrounding grief, death, funerals, loss and trauma. 🦋

Chapel of Rest or Chapel of Trauma?

This week, the DDC are talking about one of the hardest and least spoken about parts of grief — seeing someone after they’ve died. 🦋

Some of the DDC went to the chapel of rest, for some it was the hospital, and for others it was their place of death. We talk about closed coffins, expectations vs reality, embalming, decomposition, regrets.. the things they feel nobody prepares you for when someone you love dies.

It’s raw, uncomfortable at times, emotional… and somehow still full of laughter too (including a very questionable comparison to a decomposed body and a mouldy loaf of bread).

This episode won’t be for everyone, but if you’ve ever carried questions, guilt, fear, or curiosity around this part of loss — you are definitely not alone.

Trigger warning: this episode contains detailed discussions around death, viewing a loved one after death, decomposition, embalming, grief, and trauma. Please take care while listening and come back to it when you feel ready 🤍
