5 Warnings From Hebrews (And What They Actually Mean)
The book of Hebrews doesn't whisper its warnings, it shouts them. Five times, the writer stops mid-argument and looks his readers in the eye with an urgent message: pay attention, or you may not finish the race.
In this episode, I walk through all five warning passages in Hebrews, verse by verse, and unpack what the writer is actually saying to people who assumed they were safe.
We cover:
- The Drifter (Hebrews 2:1-4): why neglect is more dangerous than outright rejection
- The Staller (Hebrews 5:11-6:12): what it means to be stuck in spiritual infancy
- The Hardener (Hebrews 3:7-19): how a hardened heart forms one "not today" at a time
- The Deliberate Sinner (Hebrews 10:26-31): what "deliberate sin" does and doesn't mean
- The Despiser (Hebrews 12:14-29): why Esau's tears were regret, not repentance
I close with the GRACE framework, a simple way to respond to these warnings without fear.
This episode is part of a series connected to my new book, Jesus: Mediator and Chief, a study of the book of Hebrews and why Jesus is better than angels, better than Moses, better than the old covenant, able to save completely those who come to God through Him. The Ancient Practice Your Modern Digital Strategy Is Missing (Digital Sabbath) | Ep. 16
Episode 16 | The Ancient Practice Your Modern Digital Strategy Is Missing
Being constantly available isn't a virtue. It's a vulnerability.
In this episode, Steve Messam walks through one of the most neglected disciplines in modern leadership: the Digital Sabbath. Not a social media detox or a productivity hack — but a God-designed rhythm built into creation itself to restore the vision, clarity, and peace that constant connectivity destroys.
In this conversation you'll learn:
→ Why rest is preparation, not retreat (Genesis 2:2-3)
→ What Elijah's collapse teaches about burnout and restoration (1 Kings 19)
→ Why the "still small voice" only comes in the silence
→ The R.E.S.T. Protocol — a practical 4-step framework to build the Digital Sabbath into your weekly rhythm
Framework: R.E.S.T. — Remove, Engage, Surrender, Trust
This episode is for the leader who hasn't fully disconnected in months — and can't quite remember what clarity feels like.
Dear Leader is hosted by Steve Messam — Lead Pastor, Certified John Maxwell Trainer, and digital leadership coach.

Why God Exposes What You're Hiding (And Why That's Good News) | Ep. 15
Why God Exposes What You're Hiding (And Why That's Good News)
Most of us — especially leaders — spend our lives running from exposure. We curate. We manage. We present the version of ourselves we want people to see. And the moment something threatens to reveal what's underneath, we panic.
But here's the truth nobody told you: when God exposes something in your life, He's not trying to humiliate you. He's trying to heal you. A surgeon doesn't open you up to punish you — he opens you up because something inside you, left alone, will hurt you.
In this episode, Steve unpacks three biblical truths about exposure:
David and Nathan (2 Samuel 12) — how God exposes to heal, not humiliate
Adam and Eve, and the woman at the well (John 4) — why what you hide has power over you
Saul and David — why leaders who refuse exposure become dangerous
Steve closes with LIGHT, a simple five-step framework for walking this out: Let God search your heart. Invite trusted voices to speak into your life. Give yourself grace. Hold onto the truth that exposure is love. Turn and walk differently.
If you've ever felt like God was putting you on blast for something you'd rather keep hidden, this conversation will change how you see it.
Dear Leader, this generation doesn't need louder voices. It needs wiser ones.
