Secrets Hurt: What We Carry When We Learn to Keep Things Hidden
I wrote something earlier this week that opened a door I wasn’t expecting.
That one piece of writing has now grown into a seven-part Guided Reflection series, and I’m really proud of where it is taking me.
This is the second reflection in the series: Secrets Hurt.
It’s about the things we carry, the things we learn to keep hidden, and what can happen when we finally give ourselves permission to look at them with compassion instead of judgment.
I hope you’ll give yourself these 15 minutes. Find a comfortable place, turn down the noise around you, and just listen. 💛
Keep becoming. The journey is where the beauty is.
❤️ Debbie

The Mirror I Didn’t Expect
I think one of the most fun parts of creating something new is realizing I don’t have to know how to do it before I begin.
I just have to be willing to learn.
When Marcy first gave me the idea of turning some of my writing into guided reflections, I loved the idea. I also had absolutely no clue how to make one. 😂
So I started figuring it out.
I’ve learned how to record them. How to add music. How to edit them. I’m learning new Canva tricks as I create the covers. And now I’ve decided each reflection will have a cover that matches the journal it came from.
Some of it has taken WAY longer than I thought it should.
But maybe it took exactly as long as I needed it to.
Kevin once said something similar after we built my desk together. When we finished, he looked at me and said, “Aren’t you proud of how this came out? Wasn’t it great to do it ourselves?”
He was right.
And that’s how I feel about these reflections.
I’m learning. I’m figuring things out. I’m asking for help when I need it. I’m getting better with every one I make.
And I am having so much FUN doing it.
Kevin may be getting a little tired of hearing my voice on repeat throughout the RV while I fix one more little thing 😂, but he’s still always my first set of ears. I love that he supports me through all of it.
Today I’m sharing my second Guided Reflection:
The Mirror I Didn’t Expect.
It’s based on an essay from The Road to Becoming Me and is about seeing ourselves with compassion and holding space for who we are and who we are becoming.
I hope you’ll give yourself eight minutes to listen. 💛
And I’d love for you to think about this:
What is something you didn’t know how to do, but were willing to learn? And how has figuring it out made you proud of yourself or moved you forward?
Maybe we don’t need to know how to do everything before we begin.
Maybe we just need to be willing to learn.
Keep becoming. 🌻
❤️ Debbie

The Versions of Me I Carry
Well, apparently the three of us weren’t done talking. ❤️
Last night I shared the story behind this picture—10-year-old me, 2018 me, and the woman I am today.
I had no idea when I started writing how much that picture was going to bring up.
So much, in fact, that my original piece has now become the inspiration for a 7-part Guided Reflection series from The Becoming Space. 🌱
Today I’m sharing the first:
The Versions of Me I Carry.
It’s about eight minutes. Eight minutes to slow down, listen, and maybe think about a version of you who could use a little love and compassion from the woman you are today.
I hope you’ll listen. ❤️Save it for when you have a quiet few minutes. And if you know someone who might need it too, please share it with her.
Reflection 1 of 7. Here we go. 💛
Keep becoming. 🌱
