[…] That's where most of the people, most of the dams, most of the old dams are. But literally, if you pull up a map, like the map is almost full of dots everywhere. I also heard you say a handful of percent for hydropower, handful for flooding or safety. Does that mean that the majority of these 6,000 dams are for some outdated or unused reason just standing out there? In general, I'd say yes. Definitely. You know, going back to the industrial era, lots were built to power mills, and those mills are long gone. But the dams remain. Lots were made to harvest ice and things like that. They're not serving those purposes anymore, but the dams are still there. […]
