Deep Dark Well

About Deep Dark Well

Welcome to DEEP DARK WELL — from the sick and delightful minds at Heebie-Jeebies Pictures, writer/directors Jason Sheedy and Joshua David Matthews, and film producer Kyle Steinike. Filmmaking is a descent: bad coffee, worse deadlines, and the joy of seeing your nightmare come to life on screen. Join us and fellow filmmakers, actors, and festival directors as they dive into the well with us to talk shop, spill blood, and share what really goes on behind the scenes. Think of it as indie film therapy—if your therapist also screams about lighting setups. Welcome to DEEP DARK WELL.

Season Finale: Why We’re Pausing the Podcast

This is it! The Season One finale of Deep Dark Well. After a full run of conversations with filmmakers, collaborators, and horror community builders, we’re hitting pause… but for a good reason. In this episode, the guys talk about stepping away from the podcast to focus on writing the next project: their first feature film. They get into where they are at creatively, lessons learned from this season, and why now feels like the right time to shift gears and actually make the thing they've been talking about. It’s a mix of reflection, Taco Bell orders, and the kind of energy that got them here in the first place. This isn’t goodbye, it's just a break while they go try to make something bigger (and hopefully not completely ruin their lives in the process). Thanks for listening, supporting, and being part of Season One. We’ll be back. But we're gonna give him one anyway. Dylan is the writer and director of some incredible short films, including Home Movies, Storytime, and the one that got him a pretty big boost in his career, Portrait of God, which has over 8 million views on YouTube and was recently acquired by Sam Raimi's Ghost House Pictures and Jordan Peele's Monkeypaw Productions for the feature film treatment. So join us down in the well to discuss Dylan's path from YouTube short filmmaker to working with two of the biggest legends in horror. Still with us? Nice!
