Jeremiah Price: First ask what
Creativity vs. Reality: How Theater Director Jeremiah “JP” Price Pushes the Limits of ImaginationWhat happens when imagination collides with reality? For theater director Jeremiah “JP” Price, that tension is at the heart of the creative process. In this episode of Deep Dive Creatives, JP shares his remarkable journey through theater arts, acting, directing, education, and Christian faith. After discovering a passion for directing as a high school student, JP went on to direct 32 plays, work with Corban University, pursue a Master of Fine Arts at the University of Idaho, and continually explore new ways to tell stories.JP describes creativity as a competition—not between artists, but between imagination and reality. Using the Red Bull Flugtag flying-machine competition as a powerful metaphor, he explains why creatives should aim farther than they think they can, knowing that budget limitations, time constraints, technical problems, and other challenges will inevitably force compromises. In this conversation, JP discusses:🎭 How a high school senior project changed the direction of his life🎬 His journey from aspiring podiatrist to theater director🎓 His work at Corban University and pursuit of an MFA🚀 Why creatives should “build the glider” before worrying about hitting the water💡 Why he starts with “What?” instead of “How?”🎨 His creative process for directing actors, designing sets, costumes, props, and productions🎭 His innovative approach to No Exit and The Phantom Tollbooth🔥 How creative challenges and failures can strengthen an artist🧠 How the COVID-19 pandemic changed his understanding of creativity and identity🙏 The role of Christian faith in his creative philosophy❤️ Why people—not simply the finished product—keep him motivated🌎 How everyday people, places, movies, plays, and experiences become sources of inspiration💪 How to keep creating when life isn't going according to plan✨ Why your creative “glider” can go farther than you thinkHe also shares an encouraging message for anyone pursuing creativity: don't be afraid to aim high. You may not reach the exact destination you imagined, but pushing your imagination beyond what seems realistic can lead you much farther than playing it safe.If you're interested in theater directing, acting, creativity, storytelling, performing arts, Christian creativity, overcoming creative blocks, artistic inspiration, or the creative process, this conversation offers plenty to think about.About Deep Dive CreativesDeep Dive Creatives explores the people, stories, ideas, challenges, and experiences behind creativity.
