Podcast Overview

Welcome to Dementia, Dammit®! I created these podcasts to share the ins, outs, ups and downs of how one daughter weathered her parents’ storm … so you can too.

What I learned during their "storm" was that no one prepares you for what happens when your loved one (or in my case, both of them) suffer a steep decline in their health coupled with increased dementia — and what in the world you are supposed to do first, second, third...ninth, etc. This is probably because everyone's journey is unique, but I’ve found there are definitely commonalities that arise.

Although I’m not an expert in dementia, healthcare or caregiving, I am an expert in my own life and circumstances. And I am sharing it all to help you navigate the journey of your loved ones with dementia...without losing yourself in the process.

Cleaning House: No-Drama Downsizing

When I had to sell my parent's home in a hurry to fund their care, I hit a roadblock: it was filled with stuff, and everything was in disarray due to their dementia. I needed more than a helping hand: I needed a pro. Hiring a professional downsizer who specialized in seniors proved to be a very smart move. She not only kept me focused: she kept me from being overwhelmed and reduced a months-long slog to a three-week exercise — and even coordinated the move. In this episode of Dementia, Dammit!®, we discuss how a downsizing professional can lessen the emotional drama and physical burden on you and your loved ones.

Dementia, Dammit! Every Friend Has a Story: Katrina

One thing I learned during my family's dementia experience is this: just about every friend has a dementia story, too. All unique. Yet eerily the same. I never saw dementia coming for my parents. And when it did, I turned to one of my best friends for support. I shared, she listened, and helped me through it. Then dementia came for her mom, whose symptoms were different from my mom's or dad's...but had some common threads. In this episode, my friend Katrina shares the details of her mom's unfolding Dementia, Dammit! story.
