We explore the pressure women carry, the expectations placed on Black women, the burden of always having to be “the strong one,” and what happens when ambition, marriage, relationships, family, purpose, money and personal identity all collide.
For women across America, Africa, the Caribbean, Europe and the wider diaspora, this is a conversation about **unlearning survival mode and learning how to truly live.**
Dr. Cheryl opens up about mindset, purpose, boundaries, affirmation, confidence, sisterhood, relationships and what it really takes to become the woman you know you are capable of becoming.
One of the biggest themes of this conversation is simple:
**You do not have to spend your entire life proving how strong you are.**
- Sometimes growth means learning when to fight.
- Sometimes it means learning when to walk away.
- Sometimes it means saying no.
- Sometimes it means forgiving yourself.
And sometimes it simply means finally believing that you deserve the same love, grace, opportunity and support that you so freely give to everyone else.
Many African, Caribbean and Black women around the world grow up navigating multiple expectations simultaneously — family expectations, cultural expectations, religious expectations, relationship expectations, career expectations and the responsibility of being successful while still being considered “humble.”
So where does the woman herself fit into all of this?
-This episode is for the woman building a business.
-The woman raising a family.
-The woman rebuilding after heartbreak.
-The woman questioning her purpose.
-The woman who looks successful on the outside but knows something inside still needs healing.
-The woman who has spent years taking care of everybody else.
-The woman who has been told she is “too ambitious,” “too independent,” “too loud,” “too difficult,” or simply “too much.”
-And especially the woman who is finally ready to stop asking permission to become herself.
