Ian Fagan died, so now his little brother (middle-aged family man Ted Fagan) and big brother (old gay nerd Matt Fagan) battle grief and stay connected by co-hosting a podcast about movies. Named after Ian Fagan's internet handle and favorite rhetorical idea (the Depot Devoid of Thought), the brothers share childhood memories, and celebrate the terrible movies that turned them into the dreadful men they have become.    After a six month hiatus, the boys are back for a New Beginning with Depot Devoid Season 2! We've never talked about a Friday the 13th movie before, so we are starting Halloween season with an episode about Friday the 13th Part 5: A New Beginning (without watching any of the other movies first.) Now we're kicking off a "Battle of the Fives," pitting this one against the likes of A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 5: The Dream Child and Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers!

   Rhymes with 'Erection'

   Matt Fagan loves the 1999 Reese Witherspoon vehicle ELECTION because it's a dark comedy filled with irredeemable characters. For some reason, Ted Fagan had some negative feelings about ELECTION. Maybe because of all the irredeemable characters! We recorded this conversation in January of 2024, before Depot Devoid had ever even published a single episode. And before the actual Election, which makes this episode a quaint artifact of more hopeful times. In real life, it's July of 2026, the country's on fire, and Depot Devoid hasn't recorded in a while because Ted is recovering from a significant injury. So here we are, persisting, and trying to our best in spite of everything. Pick Flick!

   Elliott Got a Gun

   The Fagan brothers revisit CLOAK & DAGGER, a staple of their childhoods that neither had seen in many, many years. Henry Thomas (E.T.) plays Davy Osborne, an insane 12-year-old who listens to the voices in his head and goes on a murder spree across San Antonio, because his dad won't let him play his favorite video game! Weirdly, that is not a complete misrepresentation of the story. CLOAK & DAGGER is a family film about Davy, whose Dad works a lot and whose mom recently passed away. He and his best friend Kim become accidentally embroiled in what amounts to a children's version of a spy thriller. While the responsible adults ignore literally everything Davy tells them, he finds his way through the plot with the help of Jack Flack, his super-spy imaginary friend. Dabney Coleman (9 to 5) plays Davy's dad, and also Jack Flack, which obviously sets up the opportunity for some totally-expected personal growth and emotional resolution. Except... that's not exactly what happened. Some third-act revelations muddy the waters, and make Matt literally lose his mind. What is Jack Flack? What is he?!?
