JULIAN HOUSE [2024 REMIX]
Design Freaks 79 is a remix of episode 30 (published March 2021) on British graphic designer and musician, Julian House. I’m revisiting this and remixing with visuals because 1. JH is one of my favorite designers of all time 2. Warp Records has announced a pair of Broadcast demo collections, saying they will be the final releases from the duo (May and September, 2024).
I also focus on his work with INTRO (London-based design studio) for CAN, Ghost Box Records, and independent work for Broadcast and Stereolab. PLUS the origin story of "Cliff", Stereolab's cartoon mascot!

[…] It was like, I would go in for a couple afternoons because I couldn't stay away from home for too long. And I would lay some tracks down and then I would listen to them for a month. And then I would go back and add stuff and, you know, compose other things. And so it was very casual and it was over the course of many months. And if you put it... all the recording time together would probably add up to like six days or something like that oh pretty quick yeah yeah well pretty quick over the course of the year right right um and you play you play all the instruments there's theremin and and drums and keyboards yes and uh mark plays uh the melodic keyboard on Pablo Picasso, but everything else I did myself and, you know, which is, it was fun because I don't, you know, I would overdub piano.
