About Devoted
Devoted is a podcast about long-term love, commitment, and the choice to stay. Hosted by Stephen and Amy, partners for nearly fifteen years, it explores what it really means to grow alongside another human through grief, loss, parenting, resentment, attachment patterns, communication breakdowns, and the slow work of repair. Often seen as a “dream couple,” they share what lives beneath the surface: devotion as practice, not perfection. Blending lived experience with a therapeutic lens, Devoted holds honest conversations about marriage, intimacy, healing, and choosing each other again and again.

It’s in the Giving That We Receive
What if giving to the person we love isn’t about keeping score, getting something back, or making sure everything is shared 50/50? In this episode, we talk about what it means to truly be a team and how our love creates a space where we give freely without attachment, receive openly, and trust that the balance continues to shift naturally throughout our life together. We explore the difference between giving from obligation and giving from unconditional love, the vulnerability of allowing ourselves to receive, and how sometimes the very thing we give to another person is the thing that fills us up, too. From our experience, a healthy relationship isn’t always about meeting in the middle. Sometimes one person has more to give. Sometimes the other needs to be carried. And when we trust and know that we’re on the same team, giving and receiving get to exist in a flow state of the most beautiful love. It’s in the giving that we receive. ❤️

Toddlerhood Transparency
Let’s be honest… toddlerhood is a lot. And preparing to welcome a new baby while navigating big toddler emotions? That is bringing up a WHOLE lot in us, too. In this episode, we get real about what life actually looks like right now—the tantrums, the outbursts, the big emotions, the moments when we feel triggered, and the times our nervous systems go into fight, flight, freeze, numbness and disconnection. We talk about the current stage of parenthood we’re navigating that isn’t always transparently shared, including the guilt that can come with feeling like you’re breaking, the tension between knowing what our toddlers need and being completely unable to meet those needs in the moment, and the complicated emotions that arise as we prepare to divide our attention and love as we will soon welcome a new baby. This is a conversation about toddlerhood, parenthood, nervous system responses, repair, and giving ourselves permission to be imperfectly human. Come sit with us in the messy middle of it all. 🤍

Re-writing the Stories we Inherit
Long before we have the words for them, we're shaped by stories we inherit about love, money, work, parenthood, pregnancy, and emotions (just to name a few). Some of those stories become a solid foundation, while others limit us. In this episode, we explore the beliefs we've inherited from our families, previous generations, society, culture, the media, and the medical model. We reflect on which narratives have served us, which ones we're questioning, and what it looks like to bring awareness and consciousness to intentionally rewrite those stories as we raise our own children. In the end, the stories we choose to keep and the ones we choose to release become part of the legacy we leave behind. Join us for an honest conversation about awareness, healing, and the courage it takes to write a new story.

Showing Support
Support isn't always grand gestures. Sometimes it's remembering the little things, adjusting to one another's needs, checking in, or simply staying present through hard seasons. In this episode of Devoted, we explore what support can look like in everyday life—from marriage and pregnancy to friendships and family relationships. We share personal stories about how we're currently showing up for one another, how our third trimester of pregnancy has recently brought up heightened emotions and unexpected triggers, and the ways we offer support that's meaningful and genuine. Whether you're in a relationship, navigating family dynamics, or simply wanting to love the people in your life more intentionally, this conversation is an invitation to consider: What does support actually look like for the people I love? Devotion isn't just about being there, it's about learning how to be there in the ways that matter most.

Wrestling with Disappointment
We thought we had found our home. The kind of place that instantly felt like where our family was meant to grow - woods that spoke to our hearts, dreams of raising our children on the land, welcoming a new baby there, and creating a slower, more intentional life. Then everything changed. In this deeply personal episode, we share the very recent emotional rollercoaster of putting an offer on a home, imagining an entirely new future, and then watching unexpected challenges surface during the inspection process. We talk about what it's been like navigating uncertainty while seven months pregnant, preparing to move… then suddenly watching as it all falls apart. This conversation explores the grief of letting go of a future you had already begun to live in your heart, the anger and disappointment that can accompany unanswered prayers, and the tension between trusting your intuition while also honoring practical wisdom. Whether you're navigating a major life transition, wrestling with disappointment, or learning to hold plans with open arms, we hope this episode reminds you that even when the destination changes, your deepest calling doesn't have to. Sometimes the journey home isn't about a house at all—it's about what we learn and who we become along the way.

A Public Disagreement & the Lessons it Taught us
What happens when a disagreement happens in public? Last weekend, we found ourselves in one of those moments. A conflict escalated quickly, bringing up old triggers, unmet needs, and some uncomfortable emotions. Thankfully, it didn't stay there and we bounced back quickly. In this episode, we're sharing exactly what happened, what was going on beneath the surface for each of us, and how we were able to move through it with honesty, curiosity, and repair. We also share the reel where we resolved said conflict on our Instagram @devotedpodcastofficial - check it out! What we really want to drive home is that healthy relationships aren't defined by never having conflict, rather, they're shaped by how we navigate it in relationship together. Join us for a candid conversation about triggers, communication, accountability, and finding your way back to connection after rupture. We hope our story encourages you in your own relationships.

Practicing Conscious Communication
In this episode, we explore what it means to practice conscious, healthy communication in real life — not from a place of perfection, but from lived experience. We share openly about our own challenges with communication over the years and what has helped us grow: learning to listen with curiosity, communicating with the intention to connect rather than defend, and making requests while still allowing the other person freedom and choice. We talk about vulnerability and agency, our capacity to express ourselves honestly while also listening with empathy, and how to navigate triggers without losing connection to ourselves or each other. We also explore the importance of identifying and verbalizing feelings and needs, and how communication can become a practice of deeper understanding, accountability, and connection. Whether you’re navigating partnership, friendship, family dynamics, or your relationship with yourself, this conversation offers gentle reflections on communicating with more awareness, compassion, and intention. Navigating Life Transitions
In this episode, we dive into the reality of living in the in-between—the seasons where life is shifting, stretching, and asking more of you than feels comfortable. We open up about the transitions we’ve been navigating lately: Stephen returning to work after six months of unemployment, relocating out of state, adjusting to a whole new life, preparing for another move, and stepping into our next chapter as we get ready to become parents of two. This conversation is an honest look at what transition actually feels like - not just the highlight reel, but the uncertainty, identity shifts, stress, and growth that come with it. We talk about how we’ve learned to stay grounded through change, support each other when things feel unstable, and trust the unfolding even when we don’t have all the answers. If you’re in a season of transition - whether it’s a move, a career shift, a growing family, or an internal change—this episode is for you. Our hope is that you feel seen in the messiness/stress of it all, and reminded that even in the unknown, there can be connection, resilience, and a deeper sense of trust in where you’re headed. Sometimes the most transformative chapters of our lives are the ones that don’t feel settled… yet.

Learning Through Loss, Together
In this deeply personal episode, we open our hearts and reflect on the many layers of grief and loss we’ve walked through over the past 15 years together. From the passing of multiple loved ones, to moves, job changes, friendship endings, miscarriages, and the recent loss of a beloved pet—this conversation holds space for the full spectrum of what it means to love and grieve. We share not only the pain, but what carried us through: our faith, the quiet comfort of signs, leaning on each other, and allowing time, grace, compassion, and love to do their slow, healing work. Our hope in sharing this is simple—if you’re navigating your own season of loss, you're not alone. And maybe, through our story, you find gentle guidance and permission to grieve in your own way, and know that even in your darkest moments, there can be connection, meaning, and light. This is a conversation about loss along with resilience, partnership, and the ways we learn to keep growing, together. Follow Devoted to join us in the ongoing work of growing together. Supporting your partner in pregnancy, labor and birth
In this episode, we take you behind the scenes of our pregnancy and birth journey, sharing what it was like to choose a home birth and what that brought up for both of us. Stephen opens up about the fears he carried, the moments he questioned, and the quiet reality of not having a place or person to process it all with as a soon-to-be dad. At the same time, he shares why he chose to trust Amy, stand beside her, and fully support the decisions she felt called to make for her body and their baby. Together, Stephen and Amy reflect on how they supported one another, what they learned about communication and partnership, and why Stephen now feels called to create more space for other dads walking this path. If you're navigating pregnancy as a couple, this episode offers an honest look at what it means to move through it together. Follow Devoted to join us in the ongoing work of growing together. 7 Patterns that Hinder Healthy Relationships
A couple’s therapist on instagram shared 7 patterns that she noticed in couples who didn’t make it. In this episode, we dive into each pattern and share our own experiences of working through some of them over the last 15 years. How, you ask? Honest conversations, putting in the emotional labor and staying devoted to our relationship. The 7 patterns we talk about: Having no boundaries with family Not repairing after conflict One partner doing all the emotional labor Making jokes at your partners expense Not giving each other grace Expecting your partner to read your mind Blocking your partners growth We have talked about a few of these patterns in previous episodes and elaborate on them in this one. Through honest reflection and real-life examples, this conversation invites you to notice your own patterns, as well as your partners, with curiosity instead of judgment and to begin choosing what you want to leave behind or carry forward. The Power of Consideration in Relationships
How can thinking about your partner when making decisions create connection, safety, and trust? And what would it be like if you considered yourself too? Balancing both can transform the way couples navigate decisions together. In this episode, we’re talking about consideration in relationships—what it looks like, why it matters, and how it shapes our relationships. Often, it’s not the big gestures that make us feel loved. It’s the little things. The moments where someone clearly had you in mind. Considerate decisions can say a lot about how much someone is thinking about you and your experience. In this episode, we explore questions like: Do you consider your partner when you’re making decisions? Do you consider yourself? What is your natural process when something comes up that requires a choice? Some people tend to think about their partner first. Others focus on their own needs and forget to pause and think about how their partner might be impacted. And sometimes it depends on the situation. When consideration is present, relationships can feel like a safe space where both people feel seen, valued, and important. When it’s missing, it can leave one or both partners feeling unseen or like their experience doesn’t matter. Ultimately, the relationship belongs to both of you. And understanding each person’s needs is an important part of creating a devoted relationship. Follow Devoted to join us in the ongoing work of growing together. We talk about: The four horsemen and how they’re destructive to relationships How to give each other space without creating disconnection The power of reflecting back what you heard How feeling seen and heard can transform conflict into connection Simple shifts that help you move from reacting to relating and repairing At the core, we all just want to feel safe, seen, and understood by the person we love most.
