Welcome to the show where everything goes wrong, historically. A podcast covering disasters of all kinds throughout history. From tornadoes and earthquakes to mining disasters and arson. From the perspective of a professional fire investigator, I provide the history of the area, a breakdown of how and why the disaster occurs, a timeline of the event, and the resulting aftermath. Sometimes delving into the specific failure mechanisms that occurred if the disaster (or disasters) did not come from nature. Listen along as we go through them together.

[…] They need warm water, low wind shear, and a cluster of thunderstorms. Warm water to provide the energy, low wind shear to prevent the storm from being ripped apart before it can form, and the thunderstorms to actually start spinning around the low pressure between them all. So part of the reason that hurricanes just don't form in the South Atlantic Basin is because the water there just isn't usually that warm. If there's not warm water, there just isn't any energy to actually power up the storm to hurricane level. The other reason is there's usually very high wind shear in this area of the world, which rims the storm apart before it can really form. […]
