Facing Our Giants - October 11, 2026
Resilient: Recovering an Honest Faith in a Dishonest World Facing Our Giants Jon Fredricks Today's Scripture: 1 Samuel 17:48-50 NIV 1 Samuel 17:48-50 NIV 48 As the Philistine moved closer to attack him, David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet him. 49 Reaching into his bag and taking out a stone, he slung it and struck the Philistine on the forehead. The stone sank into his forehead, and he fell facedown on the ground. 50 So David triumphed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone; without a sword in his hand he struck down the Philistine and killed him. 1) NAME THE GIANT 1 Samuel 17:4-7 NIV 4 A champion named Goliath, who was from Gath, came out of the Philistine camp. His height was six cubits and a span.5 He had a bronze helmet on his head and wore a coat of scale armor of bronze weighing five thousand shekels; 6 on his legs he wore bronze greaves, and a bronze javelin was slung on his back. 7 His spear shaft was like a weaver’s rod, and its iron point weighed six hundred shekels. His shield bearer went ahead of him. Romans 8:28 NIV 28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. 1 Corinthians 10:13 GNT Every test that you have experienced is the kind that normally comes to people. But God keeps his promise, and he will not allow you to be tested beyond your power to remain firm; at the time you are put to the test, he will give you the strength to endure it, and so provide you with a way out. Exodus 23:29-30 NIV 29 But I will not drive them out in a single year, because the land would become desolate and the wild animals too numerous for you. 30 Little by little I will drive them out before you, until you have increased enough to take possession of the land. 2 Timothy 2:24 NIV And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. Romans 14:19 NIV 19 Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification. 2) GO MAN GO 1 Samuel 17:32-37 NIV (https://www.bible.com/bible/111/1SA.17.32-37.NIV) John 8:32 NIV 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” 1 Samuel 17:38-40 NIV (https://www.bible.com/bible/111/1SA.17.38-40.NIV) 1 Samuel 17:48 NIV 48 As the Philistine moved closer to attack him, David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet him. 3) KNEEL MAN, KNEEL 1 Samuel 17:45-47 NIV 45 David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. 46 This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. This very day I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds and the wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. 47 All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.” Mark 9:29 NIV 29 He replied, “This kind can come out only by prayer.” Romans 9:16 NIV 16 It does not, therefore, depend on human desire or effort, but on God’s mercy. Psalm 127:1 NIV Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain. Matthew 11:28 NIV 28 Come to me all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest Matthew 26:39 NIV 39 Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”

Resilient: Recovering an Honest Faith in a Dishonest World Discarded Jon Fredricks Today's Scripture: 1 Samuel 16:7-13 NIV (https://www.bible.com/bible/111/1SA.16.7-13.NIV) Acts 13:22 NIV …God testified concerning him: ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart” 1 Samuel 16:7-13 NIV 1 Samuel 16:11 MSG 11 Then he asked Jesse, “Is this it? Are there no more sons?” “Well, yes, there’s the runt. But he’s out tending the sheep.” Samuel ordered Jesse, “Go get him. We’re not moving from this spot until he’s here.” 1) INVEST THE INSULT Genesis 50:20 NIV 20 You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives. James 1:2-4 NIV 2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. 4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. Romans 8:28 NIV 28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Psalm 1:1-3 NIV 1 Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, 2 but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. 3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers. Psalm 23:1-3 NIV 1 The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, 3 he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. 2) GIVE NO SPACE FOR THE GRUDGE 1 Peter 5:8 NIV 8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Colossians 3:13 NIV 13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. Matthew 6:15 NIV 15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins. 3) COME IN FROM THE COLD Psalm 68:6 NIV 6 God sets the lonely in families, he leads out the prisoners with singing; but the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land. Ecclesiastes 4:10 NIV 10 If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. 4) WALK UNDER THE ANOINTING 1 Samuel 16:18 NIV 18 One of the servants answered, “I have seen a son of Jesse of Bethlehem who knows how to play the lyre. He is a brave man and a warrior. He speaks well and is a fine-looking man. And the Lord is with him.” John 14:17 NIV 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. 2 Timothy 1:14 NIV 14 Guard the good deposit that was entrusted to you—guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us. Acts 1:8 NIV 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” 1 John 4:4 NIV 4 You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. Galatians 5:16 NIV 16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.

Scratch: When No One Goes With Me It's Time Jon Fredricks Today's Scripture: 1 Samuel 16:1-7 NIV 1 Samuel 16:1-7 NIV The Lord said to Samuel, “How long will you mourn for Saul, since I have rejected him as king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil and be on your way; I am sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem. I have chosen one of his sons to be king.” 2 But Samuel said, “How can I go? If Saul hears about it, he will kill me.” The Lord said, “Take a heifer with you and say, ‘I have come to sacrifice to the Lord.’ 3 Invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what to do. You are to anoint for me the one I indicate.” 4 Samuel did what the Lord said. When he arrived at Bethlehem, the elders of the town trembled when they met him. They asked, “Do you come in peace?” 5 Samuel replied, “Yes, in peace; I have come to sacrifice to the Lord. Consecrate yourselves and come to the sacrifice with me.” Then he consecrated Jesse and his sons and invited them to the sacrifice. 6 When they arrived, Samuel saw Eliab and thought, “Surely the Lord’s anointed stands here before the Lord.” 7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” Proverbs 13:12 NIV 12 Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life. 1) THE WISDOM ONE STEP 1 Samuel 16:1 NIV 2) MY "TOO LITTLE" IS ABSURDLY ENOUGH 1 Samuel 16:2-4 NIV 1 John 4:4 NASB 4 You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world. Philippians 4:13 NIV 13 I can do all this through him who gives me strength. Romans 8:37-39 NIV 37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. 1 Corinthians 2:9 NIV 9 However, as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived”— the things God has prepared for those who love him— 3) PERFECT IS MY PROBLEM 1 Samuel 16:6-7 NIV 2 Corinthians 12:9 NIV 9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 2 Corinthians 1:9 NIV …But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead. Romans 9:16 NIV So then, it does not depend on the person who wants it nor the one who runs, but on God who has mercy. Ecclesiastes 11:4 NLT Farmers who wait for perfect weather never plant. If they watch every cloud, they never harvest. 4) TAKE A SHOT! James 2:14, 17 NIV 14 What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? 17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. Ephesians 5:14 NIV This is why it is said: “Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”
