Divinely Uninspired - 095 - Gen Z, Jesus, and the Search for Something Real featuring David

Why Is Gen Z Running to Jesus? | Faith, Culture, Nostalgia & What We're Missing Why does it seem like a growing number of young people—especially Gen Z men—are turning back toward Jesus and Christianity? In this episode of The Divinely Uninspired Podcast, we dive into that question and wrestle with what might be behind the shift. Is it uncertainty about the future? A search for purpose? The desire for real community and human connection? Or are there deeper cultural and spiritual forces at work? Along the way, we talk about the changing role of the church, why men and women may be approaching faith differently, the importance of making room for every voice in the church, and what it means for Christianity to offer genuine hope in a confusing world. We also discuss recent Bible sales and what those numbers might—and might not—tell us about the spiritual climate of the culture. And because this is Divinely Uninspired, we don't stay serious for very long. We get into everything from Bourbon & Beyond, sorghum, Halloween costumes and old-school technology to Columbia House CDs, camcorders, flip phones, privacy, AI, nostalgia, chicken wings, and why we apparently can't have a conversation without going completely off the rails. It's a conversation about Jesus, culture, community, grief, technology, nostalgia, and what people are really searching for. Listen in—and then tell us what you think. The Divinely Uninspired Podcast is a place for honest conversations about faith, life, culture, and following Jesus without pretending we've got everything figured out.

Divinely Uninspired - 94 - Air Fryers, Ireland, and Christian Responsibility

In this episode of Divinely Uninspired, the conversation goes everywhere - from dirty air fryers and deep-fried food to Ireland, reality TV, teenage drivers, parenting, and the changing standards of what Christians are expected to look like. Penny is back from Ireland with stories about the Book of Kells, Irish pubs, river dancing, Irish food, massive Irish wolfhounds, and the beautiful countryside. The crew also debates celebrity musicians, questionable reality TV, Pizza Hut bringing back its retro restaurants, and the end of KwikTrip's hot dog roller grills. But eventually, the conversation gets more serious. The group takes a deeper look at Christianity in America and asks an important question: If we claim to be followers of Jesus, what are our responsibilities? They discuss the difference between following Jesus and simply following a list of cultural rules, how Christians should treat people they disagree with, the dangers of judgment and "cancel culture," and why grace, humility, accountability, and personal growth matter. The episode explores what it means to have a faith that goes beyond appearances—and why being a Christian isn't about pretending to be perfect, but about continually becoming more like Christ. Topics Discussed: Cleaning and using an air fryer Deep-fried food and favorite fried foods Celebrity musicians and surprising celebrity albums Pat McAfee's new country music Reality TV and guilty-pleasure shows 1000-Lb Sisters, Hoarders, The Mole and other reality shows Penny's trip to Ireland The Book of Kells and Trinity College Irish food, butter, pubs and traditional Irish culture Irish wolfhounds and the Irish countryside River dancing and Irish music Traveling in Europe Pizza Hut bringing back its retro "red roof" restaurants KwikTrip and the end of hot dog roller grills Teaching teenagers how to drive Teenage drivers, insurance and distracted driving Kids, phones and driving safety Deciding what movies, video games and entertainment are appropriate for children Parenting in today's culture How cultural standards have changed Christianity in America What it actually means to be a follower of Jesus Cultural Christianity vs. biblical Christianity Following Jesus instead of simply following religious rules Loving people you disagree with Listening without reacting Judgment, grace and accountability The problem with "cancel culture" Why Christians shouldn't expect perfection from other Christians Learning from mistakes and growing in faith Biblical examples of imperfect people Surface-level Christianity vs. who we are when nobody is watching Humility, forgiveness and extending grace Why how we treat other people is one of the clearest indicators of our faith The challenge of living out Christianity in a polarized culture A funny, candid, and occasionally challenging conversation about faith, family, culture, parenting, travel, and what it really looks like to follow Jesus in the real world.

Divinely Uninspired - 093 - State Fair, RIP Dolly, Thinking Critically - with David

What happens when we stop and think about the consequences of what we consume, believe, model, and allow to influence our lives? In this episode, the conversation starts with some laughs about magazines, pagers, Palm Pilots, Dolly Parton, and a trip to the Kentucky State Fair—but eventually turns toward a much bigger question: Are we teaching ourselves and the next generation how to think critically? The conversation explores critical thinking, self-awareness, cause and effect, parenting, social media, artificial intelligence, online influences, and faith. What voices are shaping our children? Who have we allowed to influence our own values? And are we willing to question not only what other people believe, but also what we believe ourselves? The group discusses the growing influence of social media and online personalities, the challenges parents face in monitoring what their children consume, and why simply giving kids rules isn't enough. Parenting requires both authority and influence—and that influence has to be modeled long before the teenage years. The conversation also connects critical thinking to Christian faith. Rather than accepting everything we see online—or simply assuming that something is true because it comes from a source we trust—we're challenged to ask questions, examine sources, recognize what we don't know, and develop wisdom alongside knowledge. Recorded in the context of a church community in Shepherdsville, Kentucky, this episode is a candid conversation about living faithfully and thoughtfully in a world where information, entertainment, social media, and technology are constantly competing for our attention. Whether you're a parent, grandparent, Christian, educator, church leader, or simply someone trying to navigate today's culture with wisdom, this conversation will give you plenty to think about. Topics include: Critical thinking and self-awareness Parenting in the digital age Social media and children Artificial intelligence and misinformation Cause and effect in everyday life Online influencers and role models Knowledge vs. wisdom Teaching children to ask questions Modeling the behavior we want our kids to learn Faith, values, and cultural influence Setting boundaries with technology Authority vs. influence in parenting The Kentucky State Fair and plenty of completely unrelated conversations along the way Listen in for an honest, funny, and sometimes challenging conversation about faith, family, parenting, technology, culture, and what it means to think for yourself while following Jesus.
