About DJ Heff Mixes

DJ Heff is a veteran DJ in every sense of the word veteran. Not only has he been spinning records for over thirty years. He’s also a United States Air Force vet. DJ Heff was born in Plainfield New Jersey to Barbadian parents. Through his mother’s fondness for music and her house parties DJ Heff also grew a love for music. He plays Soca, Calypso, Reggae, R&B, Hip Hop and much more. DJ Heff’s earliest recollection of spinning tunes was as a child at the now defunct Black Ovations record store in Plainfield NJ. He was part of his first DJ group with his friends in high school. They were called International Sounds or the Internationals for short. DJ Heff stopped playing professionally to pursue a career in the Air Force. The music never left him. While he was preparing to go to Iraq DJ Heff was also interning at a commercial radio station in Tampa Florida. After returning from the war he was hired by 95.7 The Beat. He worked there for almost 5 years. DJ Heff is a very accomplished DJ. He’s played corporate events such as the National Association of Black Journalist pool party. He’s also spun at weddings for TV and broadcast personalities such as newscaster Tammie Fields. DJ Heff has also played after parties for entertainers Chante Moore and Kenny Lattimore. He’s also played at events for the Ruff Ryder’s Tampa chapter and the Union of Black Episcopalians.

   Through the Phone

“Through the Phone” is a nostalgic ’90s-inspired R&B slow jam about loving someone when miles stand between you. Late-night calls, empty beds, old memories, and promises of being together again tell the story of two people refusing to let distance decide their future. Smooth harmonies, warm keys, a deep slow-jam groove, and soulful male vocals bring back that classic era when R&B was about vulnerability, romance, and real emotion. Sometimes love doesn’t fade with distance… it just learns how to travel. ❤️☎️

   Right On Time (Nicola)

“Right On Time (Nicola)” is a grown-folks neo-soul love story about realizing that sometimes your forever has been standing beside you all along. After 25 years of friendship, love finally found its moment. Ten years later, that friendship has grown into something deeper, stronger, and built to last. With warm Rhodes, a deep-pocket live groove, gospel-soaked harmonies, and a gritty, heartfelt male soul vocal, “Right On Time” celebrates a love that was never late—it arrived exactly when it was supposed to. This is for the ones who learned that real love doesn’t always begin with fireworks. Sometimes it starts with friendship, grows through life, and becomes forever. 25 years of friendship. 10 years of love. And still right on time. ❤️

   Number Two (Choices)

“Number 2” is a late-night Neo-Soul / Trap-Soul confession about falling for someone you knew could never completely be yours. It explores forbidden love, temptation, regret, and the painful realization that sometimes heartbreak isn't something that happens to us—it's something we knowingly walk into. Over dark, atmospheric R&B production, off-kilter percussion, deep bass, haunting textures, and vulnerable vocals, the story follows a man who accepts the hardest truth: he knew where he stood from the beginning, but his heart convinced him to stay anyway. “I now realize it was my fault… because I chose to be number two.” For anybody who's ever loved the right person in the wrong situation. 🎧 Best experienced late at night, headphones on.
