Dokimos: The Sword

About Dokimos: The Sword

Dokimos, The Sword, is about preparing men for the spiritual battle they will encounter in their day-to-day lives. The unseen realm is at war and whether godly men believe it or not, we are foot soldiers for Christ in this battle. However, without the Full Armor of God to equip us each day, we cannot stand our ground against the schemes of the devil if we don't armor up. This show seeks to identify the schemes of the devil, equip us with Biblical truth, and provide practical steps on how to confront the evil of our day.

Dead Flies, Dull Axes & Sinking Roofs: A Godly Man's Autopsy of Compromise

One dead fly can ruin a whole bottle - and one small compromise can wreck a man’s reputation, marriage, faith, and future. This week continues the Ecclesiastes series with an autopsy of three ways men quietly wreck what God gave them: the fly (small compromises), the dull axe (undisciplined effort without real edge), and the sinking roof (passivity and neglect). Derek walks through Ecclesiastes 10:1, 10, and 18, and closes with three battle orders every man can act on today — not tomorrow. This episode is a wake-up call for men who feel tired, stuck, or dangerously close to calling compromise “no big deal.” Derek also presses the urgency of brotherhood, prayer, Scripture, and accountability, calling men to stop walking alone and start living as a tested, approved, genuine tribe under God’s Word. If you need a direct, no-fluff challenge to kill the small thing before it becomes a big one, this episode lands hard.Perfect for men who want biblical wisdom they can actually use, and for anyone tired of drifting, compromising, or living with a dull edge. Listen now and get ready to be forged by the Sword. Today's Battle Orders: Pick your weakest area and hit it today: Kill one fly. Name the one small compromise you've been tolerating. Cut it off today. Sharpen one edge. Put a real appointment on the calendar — time in the Word, real prayer, a conversation with a brother in Christ. Fix one shingle. One act of maintenance on your house — a date with your wife, a talk with your kid, finally looking at the budget. Closing Word: A lifetime of wisdom can be brought down by one folly. Guard the bottle. Sharpen the axe. Patch the roof while it's still a small job. Jesus forgives our sins and asks us to cast our burdens on Him — we were never meant to walk this alone. We need brothers in Christ beside us. Call to Action: If this episode landed with you, share it with a man — even a teenager — who needs a foundation built on the Word of God. Like and subscribe to help this reach more men ready to be forged, not coddled. Dokimos men: Put some iron in your spine, Dokimos men. Stand firm, be strong, act like men. Be forged by the Sword.

God's Nature (Ep. 2 - Fruit of the Spirit)

God’s nature as a blueprint for masculinity: The fruit of the Spirit reflects God's character, not just personality traits; embodying these fruits is embodying divine masculinity. Why it matters: This shifts the goal from superficial strength to divine strength rooted in God's character, transforming how men pursue true manhood. In practice: Instead of striving solely for personal success or toughness, men focus on cultivating love, patience, and self-control as reflections of God's nature. Jesus demonstrates the full spectrum of divine fruit under pressure Every fruit in Galatians 5 was perfected through Jesus' most warrior-tested moments—enduring betrayal, injustice, and suffering without losing His character. Why it matters: This redefines strength as unwavering fidelity and self-control amid hardship, not absence of struggle or emotion. In practice: Men should see adversity as the proving ground to exemplify the fruits, especially when it’s hardest, embodying divine resilience. We are being conformed to a 'full spectrum King' God's example is not of a soft, culturally palatable figure but of a King who embodies the complete facets of divine character, including justice and power. Why it matters: Men are called to mirror this radical, fearless masculinity—strength that is rooted in humility, patience, and sovereignty. In practice: This calls for embracing the full range of biblical character traits, not just the ones culturally or comfortably accepted, modeling Jesus’ fearless integrity. The most potent spiritual growth comes from clarity on one divine attribute. Instead of trying to develop all fruits at once, focus intensely on understanding and embodying one attribute of God that you most need. Why it matters: Deep work on a single divine trait leads to authentic transformation and sustainable growth in faith. In practice: Identify which fruit (love, patience, meekness) is most lacking, and pursue it through specific, deliberate encounters with God's character in scripture and prayer. Identity in Christ (Ep. 3 - Fruit of the Spirit)

Most men mistake trying to produce spiritual fruit as effort to earn God's love. But what if your identity in Christ already holds the key—and everything else flows from that truth? This episode shatters the performance-based mindset that keeps men stuck, revealing how understanding and embracing who you are in Jesus Christ sets you free to bear real fruit—love, joy, peace, and strength—that the world desperately needs. Today we dive deep into the powerful truth that you don't strive to become more loving or peaceful to earn God's approval. Instead, these traits are the natural outflow of your identity in Christ. You'll discover how the enemy wants you to rely on performance, but God calls you to rest in your already-secured root—whether it's fighting the temptation to perform or abandon goodness altogether. This episode confronts the lies that shape your behavior more than the truth of God's word, and gives you a clear framework to walk confidently in who Jesus already says you are. We break down: How Galatians 5 reveals the real source of fruit—your identity, not your effort The danger of adding law and performance back into your walk with Christ Why true strength comes from knowing you’re already loved and approved in Jesus The battle between trusting God's grace and falling into religious performance The importance of spiritual authenticity—standing firm and producing fruit regardless of external applause Here’s the stakes: failing to understand your true identity can lead to exhaustion, guilt, or complacency—costing you your spiritual power and impact. But when you stand rooted in Christ, you become a warrior, unshaken by circumstances or approval-seeking. This is your call to live boldly, unapologetically, and fearlessly in the freedom of Jesus. If you’re tired of striving and ready to live with unwavering confidence in who you are in Christ—this episode is your battle plan. Perfect for men hungry to grow in faith, stand strong, and bear fruit that radically influences their world. Are you ready to stop performing and start truly living as a son of God?
