Ep 22 The Butterfly Effect | A Movie That Stays With You
What if The Butterfly Effect doesn't actually begin with the first version of Evan Treborn?
Sonita joins Dom to revisit one of the most memorable psychological thrillers of the 2000s: The Butterfly Effect.
We discuss why the film has stuck with us for more than 20 years, Ashton Kutcher's performance, the disturbing childhood storyline, the different versions of Evan, Kayleigh, Tommy and Lenny, and the movie's four alternate endings.
Then we go deep into the mechanics of Evan's ability. How exactly does the time travel work? What happens to the version of Evan whose life he takes over? Why do some changes completely rewrite his future while others barely change anything? And are all of those mysterious childhood blackouts really what they initially appear to be?
That leads to our biggest theory: the Evan we meet at the beginning of the movie may already be the product of previous, erased timelines.
We examine the childhood murder drawing, the knife incident, Evan's father, the prison hand-scarring paradox and the asylum timeline to see whether the movie's own rules can explain them — and where those rules completely break down.
Plus: the novelization, deleted material, the bizarre Butterfly Effect sequels, behind-the-scenes details, the movie's themes, and where it ranks among our favourite psychological thrillers.

Ep 21 The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers | Is Helm’s Deep the Perfect Battle Sequence?
Frosty returns to Dom’s Film Club to revisit Peter Jackson’s The Two Towers, as we break down the film from Gandalf’s return and the rise of Rohan to Gollum, the Ents, the fall of Isengard and the Battle of Helm’s Deep.
We discuss why Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli are such a great trio, whether Frodo and Sam’s storyline suffers from being surrounded by more exciting events, Théoden and Rohan, the movie’s biggest changes from Tolkien’s book, the extraordinary creation of Gollum, and how Peter Jackson and his team pulled off one of cinema’s greatest siege battles.
Plus: does the battle strategy at Helm’s Deep actually make sense? Are the Ents secretly responsible for the most important victory in the film? And where does The Two Towers rank against The Fellowship of the Ring and The Return of the King?
And, of course, we finish with our favourite quotes, ratings and the Dom’s Film Club quiz.
🎬 What do you think — is Helm’s Deep the best battle in the trilogy?
And if you haven’t already, make sure to check our episodes dissecting The Fellowship of the Ring AND subscribe for our Return of the King episode next year.

Dom and Iain revisit Team America: World Police, discussing its outrageous humour, surprisingly clever screenplay, incredible practical effects, unforgettable soundtrack and the real-world politics that inspired it.
Along the way they explore hidden details, production stories, favourite moments and why, more than 20 years later, there's still nothing else quite like it.
