Topics from the ridiculous to the sublime await listeners of Don’t Ask Me to Talk with Stacy Heller & Eric Reidar. Stacy and Eric chat about what’s good; from which movies and shows to watch, music to explore or rediscover, books and podcasts to binge or places to visit, and more. They’ll share and discuss what they know and what they don’t.
Stacy starts the show with a disclaimer about Carmex and a snack. It turns out Carmex is NOT addictive, it’s the cycle of dehydration and reapplication. What is addictive is Nerd Clusters and Eric just doesn’t get it. Clearly, he has not tried the crun-chewy concoction beloved by ADHDers and middle-aged women! Speaking of crun-chewy, Gertie is hating her new low-fat diet, and her resilience proves that like Chumba Wumba, she gets knocked down, but she gets up again. Eric has a type, roadside vacuums that are missing parts that can be replaced with the magic that is 3D printing – speaking of nerds! Thankfully with the money he saved on the vacuum he could afford to go see Pulp: What Do You Do for an Encore? Nothing like nickel and diming your joy. Meanwhile, in her quest to make friends, Stacy went to a Sip & Putt event her apartment building hosted and found out the hard way how strong it was which may have improved her short game! Stacy watched two movies for her CBS this week, Straight Talk with Dolly Parton and James Wodds and White Chicks with the Wayans brothers. The first was sadly just meh and the second is meh if you’re over the age of 45. Eric prepared for a special Seattle Symphony event featuring the music of Ennio Morricone by watching A Fist Full of Dollars with Clint Eastwood; a movie where Clint found his steely-eyed, loner, big screen identity and spaghetti westerns found their footing in Hollywood. Who knew there’s a whole genre of western movies helmed by Italian directors! As for holding it versus using the restroom on a plane, it all depends on your age and stage. Just don’t follow the trend of wearing adult diapers to a concert so you don’t need a bathroom break! Owala, Aquafina, and Xenia
Remember Carmex? Stacy and Eric do and Stacy may have been addicted. The debate between “Is Pepsi ok?” and Diet Coke arises (can you tell who writes the show description by their names?). In considering what they’d “heist,” Brad Pitt’s affinity for constantly eating in the Ocean’s 11 movie leads to a conversation about Aquafina and the Oceanettes. Eric’s show at the Valley of course went well and when he heard Apple music is building a music venue at the Battersea Power Station naturally, they get thinking about an opening gig lineup. Eric confused an act of kindness for a scam, discussed his skincare routine, and shared Getie has pancreatitis which means no more bacon. Whereas Stacy has been wearing dresses, painting, and declaring war on art. For this episode’s CBS, Stacy watched From Here to Eternity while Eric continued his quest to experience the James Bond movies in order by watching GoldenEye with Pierce Brosnan, his favorite part might be the campy repartee between Bond and his tech guy. In watching The Thomas Crown Affair, he confirms that maybe Pierce is just a meh actor but acknowledges Rene Russo is stunning. As for working from home versus the office, it boils down to workplaces taking a page from the movie 9 to 5. Breakfast, Drag, and Radiators
Once again Stacy is in a good mood (read talkative). She’s on the heels of another trip and Eric is in his usual bemused with a dash of salty mood. Stacy shares stories about her stay at The Brewster House in Freeport, Maine (home to L.L. Bean) and the really freaking good breakfasts made by Dave! Somehow the conversation devolves into topics from the Gideon Bible and Rocky Raccoon to the mattress/pillow app and having luggage scales at every hotel/motel/b&b for souvenir happy travelers. Inside of focusing on these potential Shark Tank-worthy endevors, Eric and Battersea have practiced and are ready for their show at The Valley in Tacoma where they’re sharing the stage with The Honey Bee Breakfast and The Lame-O-Sexuals. Poor Eric tried to promote it but the Facebook AI bots kept flagging the ad…interesting since top AI execs are flagging AI in general – hmm. The exciting news is DAMTT got an email from listener Wes from PETA who was tickled by Eric using one of their animal-friendly phrases!! A listener and fun SWAG, yes please! For their CBS, Stacy went back in time a bit first to the early 80’s with Absence of Malice with a dreamy Paul Newman and Sally Field. A smart movie a la All the President’s Men with a premise about accuracy versus truth in journalism; a topic that still resonates today. Her second choice was To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar with Patrick Swayze, Wesley Snipes and John Leguizamo, a surprisingly poignant story about drag queens and their unexpected and at first unwelcome stop in middle America. Eric also watched two movies, David Lynch’s first movie from 1977, Eraserhead and packed-to-the-rafters with new (then) new talent, The Outsiders. Eric was surprised by how much he liked the former and by how much more he hoped for from the latter. As for new games, Eric showed how hip he is by suggesting chess and Stacy recommended Hitster because she IS hip!
