The Alchemist's Wager
“Both alchemists were brothers. They argued bitterly and and long over the existence or non existence of LuminiferousEther. The youngerwas the Heretic. He contended that it did not exist. That a pure vacuum couldexist - and the light of the sun be able to pass through it. For hiseldar brother, this was the most appalling nonsense. The very depths ofignorance and stupidity. The stupidity made him feel ill. Angry. He set out to prove the existence of the Ether!” Stephen & Naya present: A tiny tale of alchemy, obsolete science, sibling rivalry... and the worst experiment in history. Two alchemist brothers divided by a single, burning question: Does the Luminiferous Ether exist?Written by Stephen, brought to life through the narration of Naya, this is original Weird Fiction that bridges historical science and existential dread.Welcome to "Proving the Ether"! Sunbeam | The Girl Who Could Paint Anything that was REAL
Deep beneath the Siberian wilderness, a classified research project is studying a little girl named Tatiana. Antonov sat at his desk and drank vodka. He cleaned and reassembled his service revolver. Also, he reread the order that had come down from Brezhnev himself. He did all this mechanically and efficiently. As he did everything. What he resolutely didn’t do was look at the file that senior researcher Belov had titled “The Never, Never pictures”. It lay unlooked at besides the bottle and glass. Half the order from the General Secretary had already been carried out. The order read – Liquidate case designate ‘sunbeam’ with extreme prejudice. Immediately. Senior researcher Belov is to be Liquidated – immediately. Extreme prejudice. All material – repeat all material – relating to case designate ‘sunbeam’ is to be destroyed. This is a priority order of the supreme Soviet. He had shot Belov himself. Although he could have ordered one of his men to do it. And he’d done this even though the man had been his friend and had fought alongside him in the great patriotic war against the fascists. Even though he had loved Belov as a brother. This was part of the reason Antonov was weeping. He thought to himself ‘what a sight I would be. If anyone looked. These tears would look either completely ridiculous or completely horrific – because they don’t belong on the face of a man like me’. ‘I look exactly what I am. A peasant son of Russia. A granite faced veteran soldier.’ If you’re ready to discover what was hidden inside the file marked The Never, Never Pictures, press play and join Naya as she brings Stephen’s story to life. The Long Bath | Gothic Horror Audiobook
A Roman family's darkest secret is exposed when a child begins to draw things he could not possibly know. The parents cover it up. They send away the prophet. They protect the family name. But fate has a cruel sense of humour. “A child drew this. He wept about ‘the poor, poor baby.’ And told him ‘the bad, bad girl wore this!’” Before being called Marcian the Prophet, he was just a child. The Marcian Saga (Full Trilogy)
PART 1: MIRACLES (Ancient Rome, 3rd Century BCE) Marcian the Prophet, also called Marcian the Cursed or Marcian the Doomsayer was known throughout the Roman Republic. His prophecies spoke of strange gods, cosmic horrors, and the folly of men who thought they could control fate. But when a kind landowner offered him shelter, Marcian experienced something he had never known: kindness. PART 2: FRAGMENTS (The Prophecies of Marcian) The preserved fragments of Marcian’s lost books - visions of Alexander’s crusade, the river of blood at Cannae, the tiny devils that surround us all, and a prophecy that would echo across 2,300 years. PART 3: THE MARCIAN (The Present Day) In the 21st century, the head of the most powerful organised crime family on the East Coast found Marcian’s words. Dying of cancer, Don Caputo believed the prophecy was written for him. He believed it would save his life. He was wrong. “Also, I am a monument to chaos! Against those kings who would wall the world with living walls of order!” A DoubleNS Original Production Written by Stephen • Narrated by Naya Subscribe for more Weird Fiction. You-ish Boy... | A Ghoul's Coming-of-Age Story
“Did God change his mind? After all those floods and boils and striking downs? When he turned himself into this nice You-ish Boy?” Johnny Hooper was never quite right. His father - a man of harsh faith and harsher fists - saw something in the boy that disturbed him. Something in the way his eyes caught the lamplight. Something in the way he smiled. When Johnny asked a question about God’s mercy, his father beat him almost to death behind the woodshed. But Johnny didn’t die. Miss Huntoon was a teacher who believed she was a queen. She was pretty. She was popular. She went to church. She hated little Alice. Alice was plain. She had a lazy eye. She used big words. Alexander Was Losing the Battle. Then the Ghosts of Future Cavalry Arrived. | The Lion at the Turn of the Tide, Part 3 (Finale)
The bait is taken and the trap is sprung. And when the ocean itself turns black, something unimaginable rides out from the forest. Welcome to the final chapter of The Lion at the Turn of the Tide, an original historical horror story by Stephen Sinclair, read by Naya Nomikou. The king has goaded the Deep Ones into a killing rage. Now they pour from the sea in their tens of thousands, a living tidal wave of frog-like devils. He rides for the cliffs, where sixteen thousand veterans wait in a hollow square. The Silver Shields. The Cretan archers. The sarissa pikes with their “little teeth.” Seven times the horde assaults the fortress of men. Seven times they are thrown back. Seleucus leads a sally that cuts through the enemy like a switch through weeds. But then the priests of Dagon raise their arms to the sky, and black tendrils of darkness rise from the ocean. Father Dagon and Mother Hydra have come to aid their children. The sun is blotted out. The Deep Ones laugh. And then a horn sounds. The final battle against the Deep Ones. 🔔 Subscribe for more original horror stories. #AlexanderTheGreat #DeepOnes #LovecraftianHorror #EpicBattle #HistoricalHorror #OriginalHorrorStory #CreepyStories #FatherDagon #MotherHydra #GhostHorsemen This is a public episode. “Little Fishes! Greetings!” - Alexander’s Letter to the Deep Ones | The Lion at the Turn of the Tide, Part 2
The plan is in motion. The sunken city is in ruins. And Alexander has just insulted the entire deep-sea horde to their faces. Welcome to Part 2 of The Lion at the Turn of the Tide, an original historical horror story by Stephen Sinclair, read by Naya Nomikou. The king has been preparing for this day ever since an Indian holy man walked into a pyre and spoke truths only the oracle of Ammon could have known. Now, at dawn, the attack begins. On the shore, elite skirmishers burn the fish-stinking villages of the half-human inhabitants. Out at sea, vast rafts of burning timber and boulders crash into the sunken cyclopean city of Yuth Gatharun. Statues of squid-headed gods are sheared in half. And at the centre of it all, Alexander himself descends in a glass diving bell, wearing the breastplate of Achilles and a lion headdress, to watch the destruction. 🔔 Subscribe for Part 3, where the tide brings more than water. What Alexander the Great Saw at the Bottom of the Ocean (A Lost Account), The Lion at the Turn of the Tide - Part 1.
““Now” he continued “let me ask you another question. What do you think of the people who made formal submission two months ago? Who live over there?” Ptolemy pointed to the northwest coast. To where one of the tributaries of the Indus broke of and enclosed an area of low coast and islands largely cut off on the northward side by huge swamps. A dubious broken belt of land and water. Seleucus hawked and spat. “That for those people! Dirty b******s! – all stinking of fish. Stupid nasty starring eyes looking at you without blinking. Ugly wattled necks like old women. It looked to me as if some of the catamites had webbed fingers. Just like peasants who go about their business with their cousins too much”. Both men shuddered.” Listen to this chilling story masterfully blending the grandeur of Alexander the Great's campaigns with the chilling cosmic horror of H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos. Why Your Cat Stares at Empty Corners: A Lovecraftian Dreamlands Myth
Before the pyramids, before Babylon, before humans were anything more than “Thumb Thumb Apes”, two creatures walked between our world and the Lands of Dreams: the Cats, and the Zoogs. In the twin cities of Sholl and Haberon, beneath the brooding mountain of Sholl-Haberon, a quiet war played out that would reshape the boundaries of reality itself. The Zoogs came with cunning and guile, seeking the blood of children and the warmth of the fire. The Cats came with defiance, refusing to kneel and in doing so, earned a place in our world forever. Everything is better because the Cats are here. And if you’ve ever seen your cat staring at nothing in a dark corner…perhaps they’re watching what remains of the Zoogs, still trying to find a way back. 🔔 Subscribe for more original Mythos tales, dream-lore, and cosmic horror. #CthulhuMythos #Lovecraftian #Dreamlands #Zoogs #Cats #HorrorStory #CosmicHorror This is a public episode. A Defense of Weird Fiction
Why do some of us find more comfort in a bleak ghost story than in relentless positivity? In this piece of a sprawling, good-humoured defence, we wander through the shadowy territory of Weird Fiction. From Lovecraft and Machen to Robert Aickman’s quietly surreal strangeness. We tackle four prickly questions: 1. Isn’t weird fiction very morbid, violent, and depressing? (Spoiler: Radiohead and real ale may hold the answer.) 2. Who actually reads this stuff? (A friendly pushback against Houellebecq’s “people who love life do not read.”) 3. Do you have to believe in the supernatural to enjoy it? (Why the physicists are secretly laughing at their own models.) 4. Is it even real literature? (Angry librarians, evangelical nay-sayers, and why England’s metaphysical thinkers chose ghost stories over philosophy.) Expect dry humour, library anecdotes, a woman nicknamed “Mrs Rhyme-With-Witches,” and a man walking through the woods holding a dryad’s still-attached breas. Weird Fiction is rarely as gory as you fear, and far stranger than you imagine. Come join us. Let us know what you think. But he bitterly wept now. Because he could no longer paint. Couldn’t even hold the brush. He’d tried. And it had fallen pathetically from his grasp. "Are There?" | A poem by Stephen Sinclair - Read by Naya Nomikou
A philosophical piece of poetry. Something that sits between science fiction and moral reflection. The core idea is strong: discovery tests character more than knowledge. “From very early boyhoods hour. I have asked. Are there mountains of crystals that soaring majestic into a sky of vermilion and many moons? Never sullied by our eyes. Reposing in adamantine solidity. In the sea of time” Written by Stephen Sinclair. Read by Naya Nomikou. The music used on this episode was produced by Sascha Ende, under CC BY 4.0 License. Will Weird Fiction survive?
Today we’ve got something different. We’ve got a piece where Stephen shares his thoughts on the future of weird fiction and why he believes it has got a future. “Of all the writers of fiction of the last hundred and fifty years, only four will be read or listened to into ‘deep future time’. The so called, mainstream authors - the literary Avant-Gard and their adoring ‘respectable critics’ will all disappear like smoke. All of them. A few writers work will survive as regional curiosities. With no global reach. The likes of Hemingway and Steinbeck will have a few readers. But overwhelmingly they will be the preserve of academics. The big ‘air port authors’ will be completely forgotten. Who are the writers who will go on and on? Far into the future?” And that’s today’s post, folks! Give this a like and a share, and let Naya & Stephen know what you thought in the comments. And if you haven’t already, subscribe to Doublen-DoubleS below!
