Podcast of weekly messages from DreamHouse Church - a hopeful Christian church of charismatic and liturgical practice gathering in Newport News, VA. // "When the LORD brought back the captives to Zion, we were like those who dreamed." Psalms 126:1 // www.JesusLoves757.com
We see God in the Bible giving both women and men the call to preach and share the Gospel.
Along with Christians throughout the last 2,000 years, in all nations, and in all denominations, we affirm the following statements of faith, known as the Apostles Creed and the Nicene Creed.
Episode 117: The Lowly, Not the Holy | Matthew 18: 1-20 (Scott Crowder)
In this service we read the whole of Matthew 18:1–20 asking what those famous words about confronting a brother or sister are actually for. Jesus spends seventeen verses on disciplining ourselves before he says one word about confronting anyone else. These aren't church rules. This is what a community looks like when following a King whose glory and suffering are for serving people. Here, Jesus affirms littleness rather than innocence. He gives stern warnings to the seriousness of harming one of these little ones. He is the shepherd who counts a hundred and asks where the one is. By reading all of Matthew 18, we can see the difference between confronting sin between believers and reporting crimes that belong to the authorities. Gospel Reading: Matthew 18:1–20 A NOTE ADDED AFTER RECORDING: Matthew 18 governs sin between believers. It does not govern crimes. Child abuse, assault, and sexual assault are crimes; they are reported to the police, and calling the police is the loving thing to do. This is love in action for the person harmed and for the person who did it. The Apostle Paul writes to the church in Rome that the governing authorities are God's servants, and that they do not carry the sword for nothing (Romans 13:1–7).Not all harm done by someone in spiritual authority is prosecutable. Sometimes the person harmed was an adult, or too many years have passed since the abuse happened. Like crimes, these fall outside what Matthew 18 is addressing. The text does not account for that kind of power imbalance.PLEASE KNOW — if someone with power over you used that power to harm you, Matthew 18 is not instructions requiring you to sit down alone with them first. If you need to talk to someone right now: National Sexual Assault Hotline, 800-656-HOPE (4673), 24/7. Episode 116: The Rock and the Stumbling Block | Matthew 16:21-28 (Scott Crowder)
Peter got the confession right saying "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God," and five verses later, Jesus called him Satan. In this message from Matthew 16:21-28, Pastor Scott Crowder looks at how the same stone that becomes a foundation can also become a stumbling block, and what it means to have the right confession about Jesus but the wrong position toward him.Scripture: Matthew 16:13-28 · Jeremiah 15:15-21 · Psalm 26:1-8 · Romans 12:9-21DreamHouse Church | Newport News, VirginiaSermon by Pastor Scott Crowder

Episode 115: You Are Not the Whole Sacrifice - Romans 12:1-8 (Mary Crowder)
This Sunday we read and considered Paul's charge in Romans 12 to offer our bodies — plural — as one living sacrifice. It's a passage most of us hear as a solo, exhausting demand; this morning's message unpacks why Paul actually wrote something more freeing: you are not the whole sacrifice, you're a member of one. Along the way we ask what it means to think accurately about ourselves rather than less of ourselves, and to trust the measure of faith we've each been given rather than someone else's.Sermon Text: Romans 12:1–8 (with Matthew 16:13–20)Sunday Worship Service — August 23, 2026DreamHouse Church | Newport News, Virginia
