Carbon Credits Are Crap With Jaye Conolly

In this powerful and eye-opening episode of Drive Eco Sustainability, host Grace sits down with Jay, author of the bold and controversial book Carbon Credits Are Crap, to unpack the truth behind the global carbon credit industry — especially its impact on African communities. From Zimbabwe to Kenya, Uganda, and across Sub-Saharan Africa, this conversation exposes how a multi-trillion-dollar carbon market has failed the very communities it claims to protect. Jay shares her personal journey investigating carbon credit projects, revealing how lack of transparency, weak regulation, and broken verification systems have allowed money to be siphoned away while communities remain without electricity, clean water, jobs, or basic infrastructure. This episode dives deep into: Why 90% of forest and land-use carbon credits are considered worthless How African governments and communities are often left in the dark The role of big corporations buying carbon credits without accountability Why income-first, community-centered climate solutions are essential How technology, AI, satellites, and digital verification can transform carbon markets The vision behind Carbon Clarity, a platform designed to bring full traceability and transparency Why Africa may actually be better positioned than the Global North to lead climate innovation The future of carbon credits, biochar, smart villages, and sustainable jobs Most importantly, this episode challenges the narrative of climate action without justice — and calls for African communities to be informed, empowered, and actively involved in decisions affecting their land and resources. 📘 Book Mentioned: Carbon Credits Are Crap by Jay (available at selected bookstores) 🌍 If you care about climate action, environmental justice, community empowerment, and Africa's role in shaping a fair global sustainability agenda, this conversation is a must-watch. 👉 Subscribe to the channel for more honest conversations on climate change, sustainability, and real impact 👍 Like the video if it added value 💬 Comment your thoughts — are carbon credits helping or harming Africa? How Clean Energy is Transforming Refugee & Host Communities

In this final episode of the season, Grace sits down with Medad, the team lead and co-founder of the Community Empowerment Network (CEN), to discuss how clean energy solutions are transforming both refugee and host communities in Northern Uganda. Together, they explore: 🌿 Why refugee communities face greater vulnerability when accessing firewood and charcoal 🌍 How host and refugee communities can work together instead of competing over natural resources 🔥 The rise of clean energy alternatives like briquettes made from local agricultural waste 🌱 Tree-growing vs tree-planting, and why community ownership matters 💰 How clean energy creates income, improves health, and restores dignity 🤝 The importance of partnerships, mindset change, and youth involvement 🏫 Using schools, sports, and community groups to build sustainable climate solutions 📉 How these initiatives reduce deforestation and household air pollution Medad shares his passionate journey of empowering communities to adopt clean energy—not through force, but through gradual mindset change, economic empowerment, and community-led solutions that last long after NGOs leave. This episode reminds us that clean energy is not an alternative—it's the future, and both refugee and host communities must be included for climate action to be sustainable. 👍 Enjoyed the episode? Do You Know What the Technology Mechanism is All About?

In this episode of Drive Eco Sustainability Podcast, host Grace breaks down one of the most important yet often misunderstood concepts in global climate diplomacy — the Technology Mechanism. As the world gears up for COP30 in Rio de Janeiro, Grace explains how the Technology Mechanism, established under the UNFCCC and strengthened through Article 10 of the Paris Agreement (2015), drives climate innovation, technology transfer, and access to climate finance — especially for developing countries. You'll learn: - What the Technology Mechanism is and why it matters - How it supports climate resilience and reduces greenhouse gas emissions - The roles of the Technology Executive Committee (TEC) and the Climate Technology Centre & Network (CTCN) - How developing nations, like Uganda, can access support through national focal points - The new 5-year program (running until 2027) and how AI is being integrated into climate action initiatives If you've ever wondered how technology and climate diplomacy work hand-in-hand to fight climate change — this episode breaks it down simply and clearly. - Subscribe to learn more climate change terms, global mechanisms, and sustainability insights. Let's build a future where innovation drives action — and together, we save our planet. #ClimateChange #TechnologyMechanism #ParisAgreement #Sustainability #ClimateAction #DrivingEcoSustainability #UNFCCC #CTCN #COP30 #GraceSpeaks
