3 Infinite Banking Lessons People Overlook | With the Banking Bros
Have you ever had a good year financially and still wondered where the money went? Understanding Infinite Banking involves more than learning about whole life insurance. It also means examining your habits, how money moves through your household or business, and what it costs to use capital.
In this guest appearance with Jonah Dew of the Banking Bros, I discuss three lessons from R. Nelson Nash’s Becoming Your Own Banker that deserve closer attention: honest introspection, the financial environment you operate in, and the cost of capital.
We explore why earning more doesn’t automatically mean keeping more, how spending choices reflect your priorities, and why access to capital matters when opportunities and obligations arrive. I also share perspectives from my own experience practicing the Infinite Banking Concept with my family.
IN THIS CONVERSATION
• Honest introspection: examining your habits, spending, and financial decisions.
• Cash flow and capitalization: understanding where your money goes and what remains available.
• Financial control: considering how you finance purchases and business needs.
• The cost of capital: recognizing the difference between borrowing money and using money you already have.
• Family priorities: connecting financial decisions with the life you want to build.
Whether you’re investigating IBC or already implementing it, I hope this conversation encourages you to revisit the principles behind the policies and study Nash’s original work for yourself.
This conversation originally appeared with the Banking Bros. This Durham Talents edition includes my own introduction and closing.

Infinite Banking for My Children—and Future Grandchildren
Every generation doesn’t have to start from scratch.
In this Money Memo, I share why my wife and I are preparing for our children—and grandchildren we don’t even have yet—through our practice of the Infinite Banking Concept.
I believe a good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children. For me, that belief influences how I use my income today and what I’m putting in place for the future.
After more than a decade of practicing Infinite Banking, we own whole life insurance policies on ourselves and our children. I explain how I think about their different purposes: cash value that can support financing during our lifetimes and death benefits intended to help the generations that follow.
What could you begin putting in place today that your family may benefit from long after you’re gone?

POLICY CONTEXT
This video describes our intentions and experience, not a promise of identical results. Policy guarantees are subject to the contract’s terms and the insurer’s claims-paying ability. Dividends are not guaranteed. Outstanding policy loans and interest reduce available policy values and death benefits. Death benefits are payable to the beneficiaries designated under the policy; providing for future generations requires maintaining coverage and reviewing ownership and beneficiary arrangements.

How Do Whole Life Insurance Dividends Work? 10 IBC Questions | Q&A
How do whole life insurance dividends actually work?
Does paying additional premium increase your dividend? Is the dividend based on cash value? And what happens to the death benefit and cash value when you put more premium into a participating whole life policy?
In this Infinite Banking Q&A, I answer ten practical questions involving:
• Whole life insurance dividends
• Additional premiums and cash value
• Death-benefit growth
• Paying premiums later in life
• Transferring policy ownership
• Family banking
• Tracking policy loans and repayments
• Life insurance underwriting
• Repeated borrowing and repayment
• Unscheduled additional premiums
One important distinction in this episode is that dividends are not guaranteed. They reflect the divisible surplus of a mutual life insurance company and are allocated according to the individual policy contract.
We also discuss why a long-duration whole life policy does not necessarily mean premiums must always come directly out of your pocket. As policies mature, additional contractual options may become available depending on the policy and circumstances.
Later, I explain why ownership matters so much in a multi-generational family banking system: a whole life policy is private property, and ownership may be transferred when done appropriately.
Infinite Banking Q&A is where I answer real questions from people discovering, evaluating, implementing, and actively practicing the Infinite Banking Concept.
