The game ends. Your athlete gets in the car. Now what?
This week on Eagle ADvantage, Coach Patterson and Coach Rather tackle one of the most important—and sometimes most difficult—parts of youth and high school athletics: the car ride home after the game.
That ride can be an incredible opportunity to connect with your athlete, but it can also become a place where frustration, comparison, and unwanted coaching take over.
How do you know when to talk and when to stay quiet? What does your athlete actually need after a tough loss? What about after a great win? And here’s the hot take: what if the advice you’re dying to give isn’t what they need to hear?
We talk about reading your athlete’s body language, avoiding comparisons with teammates, guiding instead of tearing down, and why sometimes the best thing a parent can do is simply let their child enjoy the ride home.
