[…] Many of the people couldn't read or write well and they struggled with passing basic competency exams like the GED. When word got around that I had built several businesses that created jobs for people. I started to get requests for help. As those weeks turned into months, I got the privilege of watching people make progress. If they could learn how to read better, write better, communicate better, they'd open more opportunities to earn a living once they got out. This system didn't do much to encourage them, but I worked closely with several men who made progress and watching them prepare helped me feel more useful. […]
