Welcome to EAT LIKE AN ITALIAN, where we discuss how to maintain a healthy diet without "dieting." We take our lessons from generations of Italians who follow the Mediterranean Lifestyle, which leads to greater well-being and longevity.
Join us in the kitchen and at the table for a generous helping of delicious food. Ciao!
Today on the show, I am introducing a guest from my other podcast, "The Fatal Charm of Italy." His name is Doug Morris, and he's a veteran travel writer and guidebook author.
He has written several guidebooks on Italy, but his newest publication is specifically written to help you make the most of Italy's chaotic capital, Roma. And yes, he'll be telling us how to find a good restaurant in the capital city.
So let's take a journey through the caput mundi and try to make the most of our visit there, whether you're staying just a few days, or even longer.

Move Like an Italian
Today we will step away from the kitchen for a while and discuss another aspect of the Mediterranean lifestyle. Movement.
In fact, we will look at the idea of moving in two ways: "move," as in change your location. Moving to another city or country. Studies show that where you live is at least as important as "how" you live. It can have profound effects on your happiness, and as a result, your longevity.
But we will also discuss movement in the sense of exercise. Nothing too strenuous, but just enough to keep us younger and healthier.
However, I end the episode with a more extreme form of exercise, and that is in the form of a short essay I wrote about my time living in Rome and training for a marathon. It also happened to be a great way to get to know different parts of the city on foot instead of from a crowded bus or popping out of a metro station. I hope you enjoy it and your feedback is very welcomed.

With its emphasis on fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats, this dietary pattern is known to promote heart health, reduce the risk of chronic diseases, and contribute to overall well-being.
However, despite its simplicity and flexibility, many individuals stumble upon common pitfalls when attempting to adopt the Mediterranean Diet — or perhaps more accurately, the Mediterranean lifestyle.
In this article, we will explore the most prevalent mistakes people make when starting their Mediterranean Diet journey, and provide practical tips and strategies to overcome them.
