Bob Mavity: 32 Years with the Ghosts of the Grand
For 32 years, Bob Mavity knew the Piedmont Grand Opera House in Macon, Georgia, from top to bottom. He knew the stage, the balconies, the rafters, the hidden spaces, and what the theater sounded like when everyone else had gone home. And sometimes, Bob says, he wasn't alone. Carrie Genzel sits down with the Grand's longtime former technical director to explore more than three decades of unexplained experiences inside one of Macon's most historic theaters. Bob shares stories of massive stage lights moving on their own, figures appearing in empty balconies, music heard when no one was there, and encounters with Randy, the Grand's best-known spirit. But Randy's story is more than theater lore. Bob reveals how someone from Randy's past unexpectedly came forward, adding another piece to a story that had been passed down for decades. Carrie also shares what the Echoes of the South team learned when they were given the rare opportunity to investigate the Grand. Then Bob takes us through the theater itself, revisiting paranormal hot spots, backstage spaces, and the places where he witnessed activity over the years. Along the way, we uncover another layer of the Grand's history, including Harry Houdini and the discovery of hardware beneath the stage revealing that more than 20 trapdoors once existed there. After 32 years, Bob didn't simply work at the Grand. He became one of the people entrusted with its stories. **Location** Piedmont Grand Opera House Macon, Georgia 🎥 **Watch Our Original Macon Beyond Investigation at the Grand** Watch the investigation referenced in this episode: https://youtu.be/ljLllwG1qag?si=EL7oQaNVlrQfKxAR Macon Beyond is produced in partnership with Visit Macon. 👻 **Investigate the Grand With Us** Macon Beyond: Spirits & Song October 17, 2026 Join us at the Piedmont Grand Opera House for an evening inside the historic theater, including dinner on stage, live music from Nest of Singing Birds, and a paranormal investigation of the Grand. Jeromy Jones: Inside The Haunted Jefferson Palace Hotel
What happens when a paranormal investigator doesn't just investigate a haunted hotel, but buys it, moves his family in, and makes it home? Carrie Genzel sits down with paranormal investigator, engineer, and Jefferson Palace Hotel owner Jeromy Jones to explore life inside one of Jefferson, Texas' most active historic properties. Jeromy and his wife Pam experienced unexplained activity at the hotel years before they ever considered buying it. Today, their family lives inside the 13,000-square-foot property, surrounded by antiques, oddities, and more than 100 cameras capturing what happens throughout the hotel. Jeromy shares stories from Room 19 and its haunted bride, the Book of the Dead, the hotel's paranormal hot spots, a sealed basement, the mysterious Disappointments Room, and a photograph taken in the attic that may have captured something they couldn't see with their own eyes. Then there are the hotel's other residents, including a little redheaded boy reported by guests and Eddie, a doll Jeromy says he has captured moving on camera. The conversation also explores Jeromy's own paranormal journey and how his background as an engineer led him to develop paranormal investigation equipment through Paranologies. From living with spirits to documenting the unexplained, Jeromy has spent years looking for answers. Sometimes, the unanswered questions are the reason to keep looking. Location Virtual Interview Macon, Georgia / Jefferson, Texas JEFFERSON & THE SOUTH Jefferson, Texas, grew from many of the same economic and cultural forces that shaped the 19th-century American South. Connected by waterways to Shreveport and New Orleans, Jefferson became an important inland port, with steamboats carrying cotton and other agricultural goods through the region. Much of the population of surrounding Marion County had migrated from the Deep South and neighboring slave states, bringing with them a cotton economy built in significant part on enslaved labor. During the Civil War, Jefferson also became part of the Confederate supply network. Its river trade, cotton economy, migration patterns, and Civil War history place Jefferson firmly within the larger story of the American South. 🏨 Explore the Jefferson Palace Hotel Learn more about the Jefferson Palace Hotel, its history, overnight stays, and paranormal investigations. https://jeffersonpalace.myshopify.com/ (https://jeffersonpalace.myshopify.com/) 👻 Explore Paranologies Discover the paranormal investigation equipment created by Jeromy Jones and Paranologies. https://e9c15d-2.myshopify.com/collections/paranologies (https://e9c15d-2.myshopify.com/collections/paranologies) 🌎 Share Your Story https://echoesofthesouth.com/story-map (https://echoesofthesouth.com/story-map) Featuring Jeromy Jones Jefferson Palace Hotel: https://jeffersonpalace.myshopify.com/ (https://jeffersonpalace.myshopify.com/) Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/JeffersonPalaceHotel (https://www.facebook.com/JeffersonPalaceHotel) Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jeffersonpalacehotel/ (https://www.instagram.com/jeffersonpalacehotel/) TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@jeffersonhotel (https://www.tiktok.com/@jeffersonhotel) YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@thehistoricjeffersonhotel (https://www.youtube.com/@thehistoricjeffersonhotel) Paranologies: https://e9c15d-2.myshopify.com/collections/paranologies (https://e9c15d-2.myshopify.com/collections/paranologies) YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/Paranologies (https://www.youtube.com/c/Paranologies) Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Paranologies (https://www.facebook.com/Paranologies) Echoes of the South Host & Creator: Carrie Genzel Website: https://carriegenzel.com (https://carriegenzel.com) Website Design & Development: RiviWeb Digital LLC https://riviweb.com (https://riviweb.com) Original Music by Sequential Sound Produced by Arcwell Productions LLC Some stories refuse to rest. Katelan Foisy: The Myths and Misconceptions of Tarot
What do we really know about tarot, and how much of what we think we know comes from fear, superstition, and pop culture? Artist, author, and tarot deck designer Katelan Foisy has spent years exploring tarot not only as a reader, but as a visual artist whose work has helped bring the cards to life. Carrie Genzel sits down with Katelan to explore her personal journey with tarot, the role imagery and intuition play in reading the cards, and the creative path that led her to help create decks including The Hoodoo Tarot and Sibyls Oraculum. Katelan also shares how tarot has intersected with her work in the music world, including her collaborations with The Smashing Pumpkins. But the conversation shifts when Carrie asks the question that inspired this episode: What do people get wrong about tarot? From fears that tarot cards are evil or can open dangerous doors, to fortune-telling, predictions, the Death card, and the idea that our futures are somehow predetermined, Katelan separates the mythology surrounding tarot from how she actually approaches the practice. They also explore what happens during a reading, the responsibility of the reader, how to find someone you trust, and why the cards can't make decisions or changes for us. For Katelan, tarot isn't about surrendering control of the future. It's a tool, a guide, and a way of looking at what may already be there. The Ones Who Hide Part Two: The Ones She Feared
The team knew they needed to go back. After their first night inside a historic Macon home left more questions than answers, Carrie Genzel, spiritual medium Morrighan Lynne, and lead investigator Jonathan Morgan return to find out what is really happening inside the house. Almost immediately, they reconnect with Mandalynn. But this time, the young girl seems frightened, and her responses suggest the team may not be alone with the spirits they encountered before. As the communication continues, Morrighan identifies what she believes are three non-human beings inside the house. One appears to give the team a name: Samson. Upstairs, the atmosphere changes. Communication begins to shut down, and Morrighan believes the entities have realized what the team is doing and are deliberately preventing the other spirits from speaking. What happens next takes the investigation somewhere none of them expected. Morrighan and Jonathan begin a clearing, and something inside the house begins to shift. With the darker presence seemingly gone, the team turns its attention back to Mandalynn and the woman upstairs, uncovering what may be keeping them there and offering them the opportunity to finally leave. In Echoes Explained, Carrie, Morrighan, and Jonathan revisit evidence from both investigations, including an unexplained knock no one heard at the time, unusual footage captured by Jonathan’s XLS camera, evidence discovered only during review, and the energy work used during the clearing. This time, the question isn't what the spirits are hiding from. It's whether the team can help them leave it behind. The Ones Who Hide Part One: The Girl in the Blue Dress
What begins with the experiences of a former homeowner becomes an investigation into something much larger when Carrie Genzel, spiritual medium Morrighan Lynne, and lead investigator Jonathan Morgan enter a historic home along what was once known as Macon, Georgia’s Millionaire’s Row. Upstairs, the team encounters what appears to be a young girl in a blue dress. Morrighan begins receiving impressions of a frightened child, a troubled family, and a woman who may be connected to her. Through a series of responses, one name begins to emerge: Mandalynn. But the investigation changes when the team moves downstairs. In the basement, Morrighan is immediately overwhelmed by what feels like a crowd. An unexplained thud is heard against a locked door, responses suggest that more than twenty spirits may be present, and the team begins trying to understand why so many seem to have gathered in one place. Then two questions receive answers that shift the investigation in an entirely new direction. Are you hiding? Are you escaping? What began as an investigation of one family and the spirits who may remain in their former home now raises a much larger question: if these spirits are hiding, what are they hiding from? And for the team, one thing becomes increasingly clear. This investigation isn't over. The Woman Upstairs: The House Between Two Births
What begins as curiosity about the history of a Southern home becomes an unexpected paranormal investigation when Carrie Genzel, spiritual medium Morrighan Lynne, and lead investigator Jonathan Morgan begin exploring the upstairs rooms. As Morrighan moves through the house, her impressions lead the team to a woman connected to an upstairs bedroom. What initially seems like a presence in the home gradually unfolds into a story of grief, loss, and a mother searching for her child. The team begins trying to understand exactly what they are encountering. Is the woman an intelligent spirit, or could the house be holding an imprint of something that happened there? As more of her story emerges, anger and unfinished business surface alongside a possible connection to an orphanage. The investigation eventually becomes less about documenting a haunting and more about understanding why the woman may still be there, and whether anything can be done to help her find peace. But the experience doesn't end with her. After the clearing, further evidence and new impressions lead the team to consider whether a natural energy vortex within the house could help explain why so much seems to converge in this particular place. What began with curiosity about an old house ultimately raises a larger question: sometimes, do we enter a place looking for its history only to discover that its history is still asking to be heard? During the 19th century, migration from states across the South helped shape Texas socially, economically, and culturally, bringing with it the cotton economy and the institution of slavery. San Antonio became particularly important during the Civil War, serving as a major Confederate supply center and a critical point along the cotton trade route through Mexico. Cotton traveled through San Antonio toward Brownsville and Matamoros, allowing it to reach international markets beyond the Union blockade.
