[…] Can I really do this profession? So I think especially when new teachers don't know it's coming, it might hit especially hard. You point to a study that linked teachers' stress to elevated cortisol in their students. What does that connection actually look like in the classroom? Yeah, this was such a fascinating study. It was done in British Columbia several years ago with, I think, about 400 upper elementary school students. Kids were in fourth and fifth grade. Researchers had all of the kids spit in glass tubes. Yuck. measured their cortisol levels in their saliva and found a direct link between teachers' self-reported stress and students' levels of cortisol. […]
