Celebrating Black Culture

Dr. Robert Whitman, Educational Transformation Officer with LA Unified, shares information about programs such as the Black Student Achievement Plan (BSAP) that are in place to support Black students. Celebrating Asian Pacific Culture
During this episode, we have the pleasure of speaking with Dr. Derrick Chau, Senior Executive Director of the Strategy and Innovation Office of the Los Angeles Unified School District. We discuss why it is essential for students to learn about their culture. We share our favorite cultural traditions, such as celebrating Chuseok, Doljanchi, and Chinese New Year. We explore some of the most common misconceptions about Asians and explain how we can change that narrative through education. Finally, we share information about LAUSD’s Ethnic Studies Curriculum and the Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) Studies Course.
