How do we dismantle rape culture in education? A practical and reflective lesson taught by activist Zan Moon

This week I am joined by the brilliant activist Zan Moon. Zan runs ‘defend her’, which is a campaign to end violence against women by sharing knowledge on self-defence and the campaign strives for legislative change within the school curriculum. Zan also runs ‘screengrabthem’, which is a movement that tackles rape culture in education - exposing online harassment, misogyny, coercion through picture evidence & tagging schools. In today’s lesson, we learn all about Zan’s journey so far into the murky waters of activism, discuss some of the key terms that uphold sexist ideologies in society, as well as talk in detail about how to advocate for practical and tangible change in both governmental and school policy.

EduKATE is Hosted and Produced by - Katie Kohn

Guest - Zan Moon (Follow Zan on Instagram .Follow @defendher and @screengrabthem

Follow EduKATE on Instagram and Twitter so you don't miss any EduKATE out-of-hours chatter.

If you have been affected by any of the themes discussed in this episode, please find some brilliant organisations who will be able to help you.

These organisations offer support to survivors of VAWG, including sexual assault, sexual harassment, rape and domestic violence/abuse.

Women's Aid Helpline

www.womensaid.org.uk/domestic-abuse-directory

0808 2000 247

The freephone number is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It is answered by fully trained female helpline support workers and volunteers who will answer your call in confidence.

Rape Crisis UK

rapecrisis.org.uk

0808 802 9999

The helpline is open 12am – 2.30pm and 7 – 9.30pm.
