A Whisper of Calm in the Noise
Welcome to this week's episode of The Return to Yourself podcast. I'm your host, Claire. This week's wellbeing reflection is on awareness, the whisper of calm in the noise of everyday life. Awareness is the part of you that notices your thoughts and feelings as they happen. We explore what happens when that awareness gets lost in the busyness of the day and you move through life on autopilot, and how returning to it brings you clarity and ease. Then I will guide you through an embodied practice to pause, breathe and return to yourself. Every day, your attention is pulled in a hundred different directions. The noise of your thoughts, your emotions and your daily responsibilities drown out almost every waking moment. And underneath all of that noise, something in you is whispering. It is soft, steady and patient. It knows what would bring you calm.It knows the way back to yourself. This knowing is awareness. Awareness is always present, and yet it is easy to lose sight of it. The pace of the day and the constant stimuli pull your attention outwards. In a time where distraction is the norm, and stillness is rare, it is easy to move so fast through life that you barely pause to become aware of yourself. From the moment you wake up, life intrudes on your attention. There is something to answer.Something to read.Something you need to do next. Life rewards the quick reply, the constant check in, the next thing to consume. Over time, reacting becomes the habit, and the habit starts to feel like who you are. Moving through life on autopilot has become the daily norm for modern life. When you disconnect from awareness, you disconnect from meaning. Notice the subtle signs of disconnection. Fatigue that rest doesn’t resolve.Joy that feels distant.Time that slips by without memory. Awareness is still there as a whisper barely audible under all the noise. These whispers are gently calling you back to yourself . Reminding you there is another way to live. One where you can step back from the content of your experience. One where you can clearly see beyond your thoughts and feelings. One where you can steer your attention towards what fulfils your life. This is the gift of awareness, and it has the power to transform your experience of life, offering clarity, connection, and a deeper understanding of yourself and the world around you. The one who notices. Pause for a moment, wherever you are as you read or listen to this. There are sounds around you, some near and some further away. There are sensations in your body, the air on your skin, the breath moving in and out. There are thoughts moving through your mind, perhaps a thought about these very words. And there is something in you that registers all of it. That presence is awareness. It sees the thought as it forms, the feeling as it rises, the tension as it gathers in the shoulders. It has been with you in every moment of your life, steady and unchanging, through every season you have lived. Thinking and awareness are two different things. A thought comes and goes. Awareness is the steady presence that sees each thought come, and sees it go. Most of the time the mind takes the lead and the thoughts become the whole of your reality. Awareness offers you another place to stand and see your life clearly. Why awareness slips from view. It becomes easy to be so wrapped up in each experience that stepping back into awareness slips out of sight. Awareness is a gentle awakening. It invites presence. It is a gift to receive rather than a task to complete, and all it asks is your willingness to notice it. Stepping back to pause and notice is a conscious choice to make when everything around you says hurry up. To give yourself permission to step out of the pace of the day and become aware of what is happening to you in this very moment. Awareness asks you to look at your own patterns. The reactions that repeat. The triggers that catch you.The stories you tell yourself about who you are. Looking at them can feel uncomfortable at first, and that discomfort is a doorway. Every pattern you see clearly is one you can begin to release. This is where real change begins, in the moment you see what has been shaping you, and in that moment choosing differently. Awareness is a way of being, rather than a destination. Awareness is a gift you already hold, and the more you live from it, the more it opens in you. It is the stillness behind the storm. It is the calm eye in the cyclone of existence. It is the space to respond to life rather than react to it. Remember who you are. The gift of awareness is already inside you, and all it needs is your attention. When you are aware of what you are doing while you are doing it, you can start to realise where you are spending your energy, why it is draining you and at what cost to your wellbeing. What the noise costs you Living on autopilot comes at a cost to the quality of the life you are living. When you are caught up in your reactions, a thought builds into a story, the story builds into tension, and your body holds every bit of it. Your attention and your energy go with it. The energy that could fuel your joy is spent on the worry. The attention that could bring you clarity is spent on the story. The vitality that fuels creativity is spent on holding the tension. Life becomes a blur, hopping from one thing to the next, reaction to reaction, with very little of you present in any of it. The days pass by, you are there for them, and yet part of you is somewhere else. This is the real cost of the noise. It moves you from active participant in your own life to spectator, watching your days go by. Awareness returns you to the centre of your own life, with your energy and your attention free for what brings you joy, vitality and clarity. Awareness is an intervention for your wellbeing. An aspect of the gift of awareness is the capacity to recognise the connection between your thoughts and your bodily experiences. When you step into awareness, you begin to notice how your thoughts are alive, resonant, and deeply woven into the fabric of your physical being. They are far more than isolated events. You understand that being caught up in a mental narrative is an embodied experience as much as a mental one. When a thought arises, perhaps a worry about the future or a memory of an unresolved conflict, it manifests as a physical sensation. A tension builds in the shoulders.A tightening in the chest.A flutter in the stomach. These sensations are the body’s way of responding to the mind’s narrative. With awareness, you can see this connection clearly. You recognise that the more you dwell on a particular thought, the more pronounced the bodily response becomes. The mind feeds the body, and the body, in turn, amplifies the mind. In this dance of sensation and thought, you can discover the roots of your discomfort and the pathways to breaking the cycle. Awareness grants you the ability to step back, to observe this interplay without judgment. You step out of the cycle of reaction and become witness to your own experience, recognising that you are the author of your response, rather than at the mercy of your thoughts. This shift in perspective allows you to reclaim agency over your emotional and physical states. Your emotions begin to move through you with more ease. Anger, fear and worry still arise, and now you watch them. Each one becomes a wave you can feel fully and let pass. You acknowledge the feeling. You understand where it comes from. You release it. Each emotion you greet this way leaves you a little lighter as it passes, as your response comes from clarity rather than reaction. The space of awareness is calm. Awareness creates space to be the calm eye at the centre of the storm, still and clear while everything circles around it. Picture a message landing on your phone. The tone is sharp, and the words sting. Your reaction is instant. The heat rises in your chest, the jaw sets, your reply is typed and sent before a single breath has passed, and the rest of the day takes on the tone of that exchange. From the space of awareness the same message lands, and the same heat rises. This time you notice it. You see the reaction forming. You feel it in your body. You choose what happens next. The space between what happens and how you respond is formed when you can consciously take a pause, a breath to resource you, and then a return of your attention to respond to the message with clarity. Pause, and the momentum of the moment loosens its hold.Breathe, and your body receives the signal that it is safe to settle.Return, and your attention comes home to you, ready to choose. This is where your power lives. In that breath, you move from reacting to choosing. You become the one who decides how the next moment goes. Every moment offers you that choice, and each time you take it, you shape your life from awareness. When you live from tension, life hands you more to brace against. The same friction repeats. The same button gets pressed. The same pattern shows up in a new place with a new face. This is the pattern you are holding, so you can see it clearly and set it down. Every repeating pattern is information, and every one of them is an invitation to release. When you live from steadiness, steadiness spreads. Conversations settle.Decisions come clearer. The spaces you spend time in begin to feel more ordered and calm. Your steadiness gives everyone around you something steady to lean on, and your whole life begins to align with it. The tug of the whisper. Awareness speaks softly. It has the texture of a whisper, low and close and tender, and it barely raises its voice above the noise of the day. To hear a whisper, you lean in. You lower your own voice. You let the room settle around you. The whispers of awareness work the same way. They come through most clearly when your guard is down, when you soften, when you stop bracing against the day. A whisper of awareness often comes as a gentle tug. A pull to step outside and breathe the air.A nudge to rest before you are exhausted.A sense that something more needs your attention. When the tug comes, you have a choice. You can override it, push on and let the noise take over again. Or you can respond to it. Turn towards it, listen, and give it what it asks for. The mind is skilled at overriding. It always has a reason, a deadline, a list. And each time a whisper is overridden, it speaks a little louder the next time, until it becomes a tension you can feel, a tiredness that lingers, a body asking loudly for what it first asked for in a whisper. Respond to the whisper, and it guides you with ease. This is awareness in action, listening to the gentle signals of your body and your life, and honouring them while they are still soft. Awareness is in everyday moments. Awareness lives in the middle of your ordinary day. It is available at the kitchen sink, in the queue, at your desk, in the middle of a conversation. Every moment brings a way back to it. The breath is the simple doorway. Wherever you are, take one slow deep breath. Feel the air fill your chest and your belly, and feel it leave on a long slow exhale through the mouth. One conscious breath brings you into the present, and the space of awareness opens around it. Your body is the next doorway. Bring your attention to how your body feels right now. Notice where it is holding tension and where it feels at ease. The body lives in the present moment, so the instant you tune into it, you are here. Your senses open the door wider. The aroma of a cup in your hands. The sound of rain at the window. The taste of the food on your plate. Let one sense fill your attention completely, and the moment becomes vivid and alive. Awareness is with you in movement too. Walking, cooking, working, bring your attention to the rhythm of what you are doing. Feel your feet on the ground with each step.Feel your hands as they prepare a meal.Feel your fingers type out a message. Each of these is available to you anywhere, in the middle of a busy day as much as in a still room. And gratitude brings it all home. When you pause to appreciate something simple, the light in the sky, a kind word, the food in front of you, your attention settles fully on what is here. Gratitude turns awareness towards the richness of your life, and that warmth radiates out into everything around you. Choose a few moments in your day to become your cues to step through the doorway of awareness. Putting the kettle on.Sitting down at a table.Looking out a window. Let each one remind you to pause, breathe and return to yourself. Living from awareness is living powerfully. With every conscious breath, you are shaping your life with the state you live from. This places real power in your hands. You are an active participant in your life, a co creator in a living conversation with everything around you. Living from awareness is a practice you come back to again and again. Storms will still roll in. Hard days will still come by.Old patterns will still arise. What changes is where you stand while they pass. You stand in the calm eye, steady and open, and you let the storm move through. And awareness is already yours. It has been present in every moment of your life, waiting for your attention to rest there. The practice is remembering to return to it. And as you return, you feel yourself as part of something far greater, that holds every breath, every being, every person you love. Awareness connects you to the essence of life and to the sacredness of your own existence. You are more than someone living a life. You are life itself, fully awake, fully aware and fully alive. An invitation for a guided practice. Listening to the whisper of awareness. This is an invitation to pause, breathe deeper and return to yourself. Find a space where you can be still and undisturbed. Sit comfortably or lie down, and let your body settle into whatever holds it. Make any adjustments you need so you feel supported. In this moment there is nothing to do and nowhere else to be. Allow your eyes to close, or soften your gaze. Bring your attention to your natural breathing. Feel the breath rolling in.Feel the breath rolling out. Just notice your awareness resting on your breathing. In this moment you are aware of your natural inhale and exhale. Now begin to slow your breathing down. Take a slow deep inhale through the nose, fill up your belly with air, feel your ribcage expand, hold for a moment, and then release with a long slow exhale through the mouth. Sigh it out. Repeat this slow cycle for a few rounds, and with each exhale, let go of a little more of what you have been holding. Notice how your body feels after these slower breaths. Notice the space that has opened. Notice any ease that is present. Now let your attention open to the sounds around you. The sounds close by.The sounds further away. The space between them. Let the sounds come and go. Now bring your attention to the sensations in your body. The contact of your body on the seat where it rests. The air on your skin. The rise and fall of your breath. Now turn your attention to your thoughts. Let them come and go like leaves floating down a stream. A thought forms, and you see it. A thought passes, and you see it go. Let each one move on in its own time. And now rest your attention on the one who is noticing. The presence that hears the sounds, feels the body and sees the thoughts. Rest here, in the calm of your centre. Open.Steady.Spacious. Stay here for a few breaths and feel how wide this space is. From this calm, listen for the whisper of awareness. Under the sounds, under the thoughts, there is something softer. Lean in, the way you would lean in to hear a whisper. It may come as a sensation, a feeling, a word or a gentle tug. Let it come in its own time, and whatever it asks of you, let it be heard. Pause. Breathe. Return. Pause, and rest in the stillness at the end of your exhale.Breathe, and let a slow, full breath fill you.Return, and feel yourself come home to the awareness of you. Pause. Breathe. Return. Stay with this rhythm for a few rounds, and feel how each word brings you a little closer to yourself. The breath, slower. The shoulders, softer. The space in you, wider. When you are ready, bring your attention back to the room around you. Make any movements you need before you arise. And bring this spaciousness back with you into the rest of your day. On reflection Awareness is the steady presence in you that sees everything as it passes. It speaks in a whisper, softly and patiently, under all the noise of your day. Every ordinary moment holds a way back to it, a breath, a sensation, a sound, a moment of gratitude. When you live from awareness, a space opens between what happens and how you respond, and inside that space you choose. Awareness releases what you are holding, brings clarity to your choices and frees you to live as an active participant in your own life. Listen for the whispers. Respond to the tug. And whenever the noise rises, come back to the three words that bring you home, pause, breathe, return. Let this reflection be a whisper of its own, a beacon to come back to whenever you need reminding of your awareness. Return to it as often as you like and listen as many times as you need. The Return To Yourself is here as your space to step out of the everyday, to pause, to breathe and to remember who you are. And if someone in your life would love this reminder too, share it with them. This is the return to yourself. If you have enjoyed this article, share it with a friend who might share your enjoyment. The Oracle that Lives Inside You
Photo & voice by EIRANU In a world overflowing with information, advice, and authority, we listen to those who make their opinions heard. We turn to experts, friends, social media, and cultural norms, often placing their words above our own inner knowing. Yet, deep within each of us lies a voice of truth that has been shaped by our experiences, our bodies, and our unique journeys. This voice knows you intimately. It feels the subtle dissonance when something is off.It recognises the patterns that your mind may overlook. It speaks truths that can be hard to accept. And yet, this is often the voice we silence the quickest. So why is the voice that knows you best so often the last one you listen to? Is it because we doubt our own authority? Is it the allure of certainty that comes from others? Is it easier to trust others than to trust your own inner knowing? The Oracle that lives in you. For thousands of years, pilgrims have travelled to the Oracle. A power they hold in esteem and turn to for answers on their life path. They climbed up to temples and sacred places with their questions, and waited for guidance on what lay hidden from view. When pilgrims embark on their journeys, they go to seek answers, and also to create a space where the busyness of everyday life fades away. In the stillness of sacred places, they find clarity, connection, and often the profound realisation that the true pilgrimage is the journey into the self. The act of pilgrimage awakens the Inner Oracle, the voice of intuition and wisdom that resides in each of us. Your Inner Oracle is the part of you that knows before you have the reasons. It is your intuition, a sense of something being right or wrong. It is wisdom shaped by everything you have lived and value. It is rooted in trust, compassion, and connection to yourself. Taking time off for a pilgrimage is not an option for us all. Instead the realisation that a pilgrimage awakens the Inner Oracle in you can be woven into the fabric of your everyday existence. This can become a practice in your everyday life. To return to yourself. To listen to yourself. To trust yourself. You can transform ordinary moments into rituals of your own. Whether it’s sipping tea in silence, taking a mindful walk, or pausing to breathe deeply, these moments cultivate stillness and presence. In these conditions your Inner Oracle speaks clearly and steadily. Every time you pay attention to your inner knowing, feelings, desires, and insights, you are honouring your Inner Oracle and your wellbeing. How your Inner Oracle speaks. Your Inner Oracle speaks through the body in nudges, in intuitive signals and sensation. Tightening and settling.Unease and ease.Scattered and steady. Your nervous system reads every situation you step into, every conversation, every face, every tone of voice, and it responds before a single thought has formed. The language of your Inner Oracle is expressed through the body guiding you towards or away from certain choices When something is off, the body tenses. The chest tightens. The belly knots. The breath shortens. There is a pull, an unease, a sense that something needs a closer look. When we ignore these signals, dissonance arises. The body, unable to articulate its truth, speaks through discomfort. This constant effort to mask your true self drains your vitality, leaving you feeling depleted and uninspired. This cry for alignment to what feels true for you, reminds you that authenticity is essential for your wellbeing. When something feels right, the body expands. The breath deepens. The shoulders drop. The throat loosens. A steady warmth settles in the centre of you, and you feel clear. When you align with your inner guidance, you experience a resurgence of energy and a sense of purpose. Your Inner Oracle is your early warning system. The body’s way of reminding you to listen, to trust, and to return to your inner alignment. The mind catches up later and looks for the reasons, while the body already knows what is true for you. Every voice before your own. From your earliest years, you learn that answers come from outside. You learn to ask the question and wait to be told the answer. From the parent. From the teacher. From the person in charge. Asking others becomes the norm. Most people are listening to every other voice before their own. While their own inner voice waits its turn. The expert, the specialist, the advisor, the person with the qualifications and the years of experience, their voice is the authority you listen to first. The colleague who sounds sure, the friend with a strong opinion, the voice online with thousands of followers, they influence you to consider their knowing above yours. It happens daily, in the appointment, in the meeting, in the media, in the most ordinary moments of the day. It feels respectful. It feels expected. It feels like the right thing to do. And yet your own voice holds the one thing every other voice lacks. It knows you intimately. When the expert and your body disagree. Trusting yourself feels easy when everyone else agrees with you. The real test comes when someone you would naturally trust, someone with knowledge and experience, tells you one thing, and your body tells you another. Does this sound familiar? You are with someone who knows their field. You explain what is happening, and as they speak, something in you stirs. Your instinct has a clear idea of what you would like to do. And instead of doing it, you turn it into a question. Should I do this?Should I check that?Should I act or wait? In that moment you hand them the decision. They answer from where they stand. Their expertise speaks and you give it credence. They sound certain, and certainty sounds like the truth. In the moment, confidence and truth can sound exactly alike. The mind is persuaded, while the body senses the difference and resists. While others may possess expertise, they do not know you as intimately as you know yourself. They offer guidance shaped by their experiences and training, but they cannot sense the nuances of your inner landscape. The expert knows their subject. You know yourself. Their expertise is real and valuable, and it covers the part of the picture they can see. They see one moment of your life. You live the whole of it, and you live with whatever comes next. Speaking up to express your inner voice even when it sounds like you are disagreeing with the expert takes guts. Honouring yourself doesn’t mean disrespecting the expert. It means you recognise that something is off for you that needs to be listened to, expressed and heard. When you can say, I hear your expertise and I hear my body’s response telling me something feels off, you can then open a wider discussion to investigate further until your body finds ease. If you keep your feelings to yourself, if you hold back that something feels off, they may remain unaware of your deeper needs. It is your responsibility to bring your inner voice to the table, to complement their expertise. Why agreeing feels easier. When an expert asks you to trust them, their reassurance offers relief to the mind. It lets you set the concern down. It lets you trust the person in front of you. It lets you move on with your day. Following your own knowing asks more from you. If you don’t take the expert reassurance and you continue to question, you may find something else to face. An underlying issue waiting to be detected. Hidden out of sight yet you know it is there. Your authority on yourself is valid. Your lived experience gives you insight that deserves to be heard, as much as any years of study. When you express that something feels misaligned, and the expert listens, you create space for a deeper understanding, a collaborative exploration that honours both the inner and outer voices. However, if you remain silent, if you swallow your truth to appease authority, you risk bearing the weight of your own unvoiced wisdom. And when your inner authority was right all along, this hits hard. You hold the disappointment of knowing that you felt it, and kept it to yourself. This is an act of betrayal against yourself. This is a sense of letting yourself down. This is the ache of having set your own voice aside. Understanding this dynamic is an invitation to clarity. Many people cope by avoiding discomfort, by putting their heads in the sand, but true empowerment lies in trusting what your body is telling you. When you seek further clarity, when you inquire beyond surface level assurances, you honour yourself. When you align with your feelings and bring them into the light, you create a space of coherence and clarity. Advocating for yourself is an act of self love. Each time you act on your knowing, your inner signal sharpens and your confidence in it deepens. This is where your wellbeing thrives. Your voice matters,Your experience is valid,Your intuition is your trusted guide. Listening to yourself first. This is the heart of it. Listen to yourself first, and then weigh every other voice against what you know. When your inner detection system is telling you that something feels off respond to that. When you feel the tug of discomfort, you are being invited to pause, reflect, and reconnect with the Inner Oracle. Ask the question you are holding.Trust your inner knowing.Seek another view. You understand what is at stake, what is in the mix and what needs your attention. This process may require vulnerability and courage, as it often involves confronting fears, doubts, and societal conditioning. In the symphony of life, your authority is the conductor. Listen to the voices around you, yes, and let your own voice lead the way. Always return to what you know is true for yourself. Your body is the expert on your wellbeing and your most intimate guide. Your wellbeing requires you to act in harmony with your inner knowing, that steady voice of guidance that knows you better than anyone else. This inner guidance is your early warning system, always prioritising your best interests. It offers intelligence that sometimes eludes your conscious awareness, nudging you towards choices that align with your highest good. Your inner voice is connected to a wider intelligence, a universal consciousness that transcends individual experience. This is where precognition resides, where knowing arises before you can articulate it. It is the expertise of your soul, the wisdom that emerges when you allow yourself to listen. Every time you trust this inner voice, it delivers results that serve your best interests. You avoid missteps. You step away from paths that feel out of tune. You embrace those that nurture your growth. With each act of listening, you honour your choices fully, integrating the wisdom of your body coming from your inner oracle. When you stand in your own authority, you become the architect of your life, clear, coherent, and aligned with your truth. A guided embodied practice to listen to your Inner Oracle. This is an invitation to pause, breathe deeper and return to yourself. Give yourself this space where you can be undisturbed. Find a place where you can be still, and sit comfortably or lie down. Make any movements needed so you can relax. Perhaps raise your shoulders to your ears, scrunch and hold them before allowing them to fall, creating a sensation of spaciousness. Or perhaps some stretches or neck rolls are calling to you, make whatever adjustments you need. Let the body feel comfortable and supported. Bring your attention to your natural breathing. Feel the sensations of the breath rolling in.Feel the sensations of the breath rolling out. Feel the breath rolling in.Feel the breath rolling out. Now I invite you to consciously slow down your breathing. Take a slow deep inhale through the nose, fill up your lungs with air and hold for a moment and then release with a long slow exhale through the mouth. Sigh it out. And repeat this cycle of slow deep breathing for a few rounds and with each exhale release a little more of what you have been holding, let it go with a sigh. Notice how your body feels after a slower breathing cycle. Notice the space it has created, notice the ease that may be present, notice any signals or sensations that your body is speaking to you. Now bring a hand to your solar plexus, just above the belly. Feel the rise and fall under your hand. Notice the steadiness that begins to gather here as your breath slows. Stay here for a few breaths and let that steadiness settle in. The solar plexus is the gateway to your Inner Oracle. This is your centre. This is your seat of personal authority and self confidence. It’s where you assert your will and manifest your intentions. When aligned, it empowers you to act from a place of authenticity and clarity. Now call to mind a conversation when you listened to another and where you set your inner knowing aside. Let it come into focus. Remember what advice you took from them and how your body responded. Notice the signals and sensations that arise when you call this memory to mind. Notice what your body does. Does your breath change?Does something tighten or draw in?Does the steadiness shift? Simply notice. Your body is responding. Now bring your attention back to your hand, back to your breath. A deep inhale. A long exhale. Feel yourself return to your centre. And ask yourself, simply and directly. What is true for me?What does my Inner Oracle tell me? Let the answer come. It may be a word, a feeling, an image or knowing. Take your time to listen. Allow the answer to speak clearly. Let the answer land in your body and feel your response. Breathing in, say to yourself, “I listen to my Inner Oracle.”Breathing out, say to yourself, “I trust what I know.”Breathing in, “I listen to my Inner Oracle.”Breathing out, “I trust what I know.” Stay with this knowing and allow it to settle into your body. Feel your feet on the ground. Feel your hand on your centre. Feel the steadiness of a voice that has always been there. When you are ready, bring your awareness back to the room around you. And take your inner knowing out into the world with you, come back to it the next time you need to decide what is true for you. On reflection. The Inner Oracle is the compass within us, guiding us towards authenticity and alignment. By learning to listen to the signals in the body, we can navigate the complexities of life with grace and clarity. Your Inner Oracle is the part of you that knows before you have the reasons. It speaks through the body, it speaks first, and it knows you better than any expert ever could. Every voice deserves to be heard, and yours comes first. The expert knows their subject. You know yourself. Take in their knowledge, weigh it against your own, and let your knowing have the final word. Embracing the wisdom of the Inner Oracle empowers you to honour your truth, cultivate coherence, and live in harmony with yourself and the world around you. This is the return to yourself. The Sacred Pause of the Equinox
Photo, voice and sounds by EIRANU Twice a year something extraordinary happens across the whole of the Earth at the same time and we are in the midst of it now. As the sun crosses the celestial equator, a remarkable phenomenon occurs when day and night are equal across the entire Earth. Here, the northern hemisphere receives the Autumn Equinox, while the Southern Hemisphere receives the Vernal Spring Equinox. The sun rises and sets in perfect symmetry, casting equal light and shadow on every corner of the globe. This is more than an astronomical event; it is a cosmic symphony playing in unison, a rare moment when the entire world experiences balance at the same time. The Equinox as a Cosmic Breath. The Equinox is like the Earth taking a deep breath and holding it, a moment of stillness in the cosmic dance. It is the universe pausing to reflect, to realign, to remember the harmony that underlies all life. The Equinox invites us to reflect on the light and shadow we carry, to honour both the joy and the sorrow, the strength and the vulnerability. This is a call to presence, an opportunity to reconnect with the inner essence of who we truly are. The Equinox reminds us of our shared existence. Imagine billions of people, spread across continents and cultures, all experiencing the same moment of equilibrium. Wherever you are in the world, you experience the same celestial event. This is a powerful reminder of our interconnectedness. A sacred pause in the dance of time.A stillness while the cosmic scales are balanced.A breath of unity that transcends our differences. In a world often divided by borders, beliefs, and identities, the Equinox is a unifying force. It collapses distance and separation, inviting us to remember that we are part of a larger whole. That we are threads woven into the fabric of the universe, each contributing to the tapestry of existence. The Equinox has long been revered. The ancients understood the significance of the Equinox. They revered it by building sacred stone alignments that wake only at the daylight of equinox. They designed chambers where the rising sun reaches in along a passage to illuminate the stone inside that for the rest of the year remains in darkness. And they let the moment align them before they walked into the rest of the year. They went to that much effort for one reason. They knew this balance meant something. They knew it was rare. They knew it asked to be honoured. They knew its significance. Much of that knowing has slipped away, the old markers, the thresholds, the turning points of the year. This is what the Equinox calls us to remember. The Equinox is a cosmic threshold to cross. As the day and night find equilibrium, so too does our internal rhythm. The body, ever attuned to the cycles of nature, responds instinctively. As an embodied experience, the Equinox may be felt as a subtle shift, a slight recalibration of energy. It marks a threshold to realign with the harmony of the earth. It invites us to step into the stillness of our own being. It reminds us that balance is something we return to. Being in balance means we are held in a state of coherence, where all parts are in resonance with each other. The heart beats in rhythms of contraction and release. The breath flows in cycles of inhalation and exhalation. The body adapts in response to the cycles of nature. Earth tilts, the seasons change, and life adapts in response. At this shared moment of the Equinox, we too are called to seek balance within ourselves. When we return to balance, we align ourselves with the natural order, and in doing so, we contribute to the balance of the world. The Equinox is a return to balance. In the wondrous dance of the cosmos, balance is the pulse that sustains life. It is the foundational law upon which existence rests. The Equinox, with its perfect symmetry of light and dark, serves as a global reminder to return to balance, both within and without. It is finding an equilibrium between opposites of light and shadow. Of expansion and contraction.Of action and rest.Of holding on and letting go It reminds us that true balance is not about eliminating one for the other, but about embracing the wholeness of our being. To live in balance is to honor both sides of every polarity, to recognize that one cannot exist without the other. It is to embrace the paradox that stability isn’t found in rigidity, but in fluidity. The Equinox is a mirror to reflect on. The balance in the sky is a mirror for the balance in you. So much of the year asks you to move. To do.To juggle. To be in motion. The equinox asks for the opposite, because balance lives in stillness, and clarity comes in the pause. Balance is a practice, a sacred dance between the light and dark, seen and unseen, the self and the whole. Each one giving the other its meaning, the two belong together, partners in the whole. The light and the shadow. The joy and the sorrow. The strength and the softness. The Equinox calls us back to this dance, reminding us that we are not isolated fragments, but harmonious notes in the symphony of existence. To be the embodiment of balance, we need return to the practice our own dance. Between work and rest.Between giving and receiving.Between speaking and listening. As we return to balance, we remember who we are, each of us an expression of the universe becoming aware of itself. This is the gift of balance. This is the essence of life. The Equinox offers a sacred pause. It invites us to pause, to breathe, and to remember we are beings of light and shadow, dancing in harmony with the cosmos. As you stand in this sacred pause, may you feel the Earth holding you, the stars guiding you, and the breath of the universe moving through you. In the stillness of the Equinox, the soul’s voice becomes clearer. Intuition sharpens.Inner knowing speaks.Insights emerge. This is the soul whispering its truth, inviting you to align with your highest path. A calling to be fully present with awareness and gratitude.A reminder that life is a sacred dance in the spiral of becoming.A reflection on what has grown in you since the spring equinox. The balance point of the Equinox asks you what will you tend through the inward season? It asks you to reflect on the past cycle: The seeds that sprouted. The parts that flourished. The lessons that took root. Celebrate how far you have come this year, and trust in the unfolding of what is yet to be. Be present to what is complete, what has served its season and is ready for release, and let it fall away, the same way the tree lets its leaves fall. Then look ahead, into the darker months. The inward season is fertile ground, the soil where seeds root down through the winter. Set your intentions for the future. Plant them now, here, in the pause of the Equinox. This is the perfect moment. Guided practice: A pause to find balance This is an invitation to pause, to be still, and to align with yourself. Find a space where you can be comfortable, where you won’t be disturbed. Give yourself these few minutes to be still. A moment to stop. A moment to be here fully. Sit or lie comfortably, and let the body settle into whatever holds you. Feel the ground under you, steady, feel a connection to the earth below. Close the eyes if that feels easy, or lower your gaze and let it soften. Bring your awareness to the breath, and let it move in its own time. Feel the breath roll in. Feel the breath roll out. Two halves of one rhythm, in your own body. I invite you now to slow down your breathing. Take a slow deep breath in through the nose, fill up your belly with air, notice the ribcage rising, hold the fullness of the breathe and pause. Then take a long slow exhale through the mouth, sigh it out, feel the release, and the space it makes for the next breath. Repeat the slow deep rounds of breathing a couple of times to signal to your body you are giving it permission to relax. A slow deep breath in through the nose, fill up your belly with air, notice the ribcage rising, hold and pause. Then release with a long slow exhale through the mouth, sigh it out, feel the release, and the space it makes for the next cycle of breathing. Continue in your own time. As you breathe out, let your body soften. Let the holding ease. Let the mind settle. I will now play a singing bowl tuned to the frequency of the Cosmos. A resonant note to restore balance and harmony in the body. The sound moves through the audio version of this piece. Let the tone move through you, through the body, through the places that you have been holding. Let it settle you into the level place, the space the day settles into when it’s balance. Stay here a moment, in that balance. And say to yourself; Breathing in, “I return to balance.” Breathing out, “I return to myself.” Breathing in, “I return to balance.” Breathing out, “I return to myself.” If the mind pulls you away, just notice it, and come back. Bring your awareness back to your inner landscape. Take a moment to notice how the body feels. Perhaps something feels more level. Perhaps a little more settled. Perhaps a little more balanced. Notice any steadiness rising within you. Notice any sensations in your body that need to be heard. Now open up to your inner knowing. What are you being called to remember in this moment? What matters to you in the sacred pause of your awareness? What seeds for the coming months will you plant in the fertile soil of your soul? As you allow the answers to come, set your intentions now for what you need to bring balance to your life and come back to this intention often. When you are ready bring your awareness back to the room around you. Make any gentle movements you need before you return to your day. On reflection The equinox is a sacred pause, a call to remember to return to balance. The ancients stood in it because they knew what it was, rare, and sacred, and full of meaning. The days will shorten now. The nights will lengthen. The year will draw us down toward the winter solstice and the deep of the dark. So take this pause while it is here. Gather yourself. And step into the turning season steady, and ready, and whole. This is the return to yourself. If you have enjoyed this article, share it with a friend who might share your enjoyment.
