Episode 011: Wealth Management’s AI Credibility Gap

AI is reshaping wealth management, but closing the gap between innovation and real outcomes takes more than a tech upgrade. On this episode of Electric Mindset, host Dave Manley sits down with Kapin Vora, US Managing Partner at Electric Mind, to unpack why the "credibility gap" between AI ambition and AI results matters more than ever, and why it shouldn’t be ignored. Kapin shares the journey that brought him from engineering and financial services consulting into leading Electric Mind's US growth, then breaks down where AI creates the most value across wealth management: automating advisor workflows, rethinking client onboarding, and navigating regulatory requirements like KYC and AML. He explains why real transformation starts with reskilling people and building compounding institutional knowledge, not chasing flashy prototypes or AI marketing. The conversation covers: Where AI delivers the clearest ROI in wealth management today Why client onboarding remains one of the biggest automation opportunities How firms should sequence AI adoption to start small and build safely The difference between augmenting advisors and replacing them Why owning your intelligence layer beats outsourcing it long-term What leaders should prioritize in the next 6 to 12 months A rapid-fire round on chief AI officers, proprietary models, and AI advisors 00:00 Introduction and welcome to Electric Mindset 00:42 Meet Kapin Vora, US Managing Partner at Electric Mind 01:22 Kapin's journey: from Africa to engineering to financial services 04:47 Where AI adds the most value: cost, revenue, and risk 06:16 AI's impact on client onboarding 08:01 AI and regulatory considerations: KYC and AML 09:03 Sequencing automation across the five wealth functions 10:17 Opportunities for AI in advisor workflows 11:26 Why integration is critical to AI success 12:20 Will AI augment or replace advisors? 13:36 Defining the "credibility gap" in wealth management 15:08 Technology, organization, or talent: where the gap really lives 16:46 The reskilling challenge for today's workforce 18:04 Retaining institutional knowledge in the age of AI 19:19 Building an owned intelligence layer vs. outsourcing 20:50 Helping leaders adapt to AI-driven change 22:29 Speed, ROI, and the case for taking action 24:08 Rethinking how organizations fund and plan AI projects 25:07 Delivering value while building the foundation 26:22 Electric Mind's approach to AI enablement 29:01 The real cost of waiting to invest in AI 30:01 Where agentic AI fits in wealth management today 30:44 What leaders should prioritize over the next 6-12 months 32:16 Supercharge or Short Circuit: rapid-fire round 33:18 Off Script: the biggest AI supercharge moment right now Kapin Vora: kapin.vora@electricmind.com (mailto:kapin.vora@electricmind.com) Dave Manley: https://www.linkedin.com/in/dmmanley/ (https://www.linkedin.com/in/dmmanley/) Learn more about Electric Mind at electricmind.com

Episode 10: The Human is Still the Story

Mastering AI takes more than new tools. It takes a new way to learn and adapt. On the latest episode of Electric Mindset, host Dave Manley talks with Mike Lee, co-founder of Graivy, about a real risk in fast-moving fields: expertise can turn into tunnel vision. Mike draws on decades in fintech and food tech to explain why transformation starts with curiosity and a willingness to get messy, not just technical skill. Whether you're a junior developer asking questions or a seasoned expert holding onto what you know, the same principle applies. Staying open to AI's paradigm shift matters more than defending past expertise. The takeaway: progress in applied AI comes from balancing wisdom with experimentation. Mike calls it riding the Magic School Bus while keeping the Tony Stark suit ready for when precision counts. Carrying legacy knowledge forward isn't optional. It's what responsible AI stewardship looks like in practice. Want to future-proof your team or make smarter bets on automation? Let's talk. Mike's journey shows that getting AI right is about mindset as much as it is about technology. 00:00 Welcome to Electric Mindset 00:01:42 Introducing Mike Lee, co-founder of Graivy 00:02:39 The Magic School Bus and Tony Stark framework 00:04:12 Mike 1.0: building the foundation in banking 00:07:10 A wake-up call: mortality, retirement, and "what's next" 00:08:49 The pull toward founding Graivy 00:11:32 From fintech to food tech: finding the through line 00:13:52 Applied AI vs. the "AI expert" label 00:17:37 Legacy systems: old tech vs. new possibilities 00:21:13 The Tony Stark mindset shift (the Endgame scene) 00:27:41 The Einstelung effect and the expert trap 00:27:58 AI's impact on software development 00:31:19 The role of experts in the AI era 00:34:34 Career advice: riding the bus at every career stage 00:36:58 Supercharge or Short Circuit 00:38:40 How to find Mike Lee and Graivy Learn more about Graivy here: www.graivy.com Learn more about Electric Mind here: www.electricmind.com #ElectricMindset #Podcast #AppliedAI #AITransformation #Graivy #DaveManley #MikeLee #ElectricMind #TheFutureisBright #AI #TechConsulting #AIConsulting

Episode 008: Th AI Execution Gap

Season 2 of Electric Mindset is here. And we're kicking it off with one of the biggest questions in enterprise AI right now: how do you actually get value from it? Most organizations know they need to do something with AI. Fewer know what that something should be. Even fewer are measuring whether it's working. In this episode, host Dave Manley talks with Keith Shiner, Engineering Lead Partner at Electric Mind, and Dan Adamson, CEO & Co-Founder of AutoAlign AI, about the gap between AI hype and AI impact inside large organizations. The conversation covers what separates companies that are getting real returns from the ones still stuck in pilot mode, and why leadership buy-in means more than signing off on a budget. What you'll hear: Why the winners in AI transformation aren't chasing tools, they're asking better questions What "fail fast" actually looks like when there's real money on the table How to measure ROI in terms your board will care about The culture shift that has to happen before any technology can stick This isn't a conversation about what AI could do someday. It's about what's working now, what's not, and what to do about it. Episode 007: The Future of Payments

Payments innovation impacts us all—but most of us rarely think about what happens behind the tap or transfer. In this Season 1 bonus episode of Electric Mindset, our host Nick Dyment sat down with Alex Achtemichuk and Eric Lombardi to unpack the transformation reshaping Canada’s financial system. From the future of real-time rails to the rise of agentic AI, the conversation revealed that payments modernization isn’t a one-and-done event—it’s an ongoing journey requiring constant investment, scale, and curiosity. Alex Achtemichuk put it succinctly: the financial institutions agile enough to harness structured data and AI are poised to pull ahead, while Eric Lombardi reminded us that smaller players can now leapfrog incumbents by building around nimble architectures and next-gen tools. If you’re building in fintech or rethinking business strategy, remember: sustainable advantage comes from focusing on what makes your experience unique, while leveraging partners to take care of the complex infrastructure. And as the barriers to entry drop, success will belong to those who embrace learning, humility, and bold execution—no matter the market climate. Curious about how to adapt your roadmap or where Canada stands on the global innovation stage? Reach out and let’s keep the conversation going. In a world that’s only getting more complex, there’s never been a better time to stay curious and build something future-ready. Episode 006: Contact Centers in the AI Era

Contact centers get a bad rap. They're often written off as cost centers: high-volume, high-churn, and low on innovation. But what if flipping that mindset is the key to real CX transformation? In episode 006 of Electric Mindset, host Nick Dyment talks with Michael Lang, Advisory Director and contact center transformation specialist about what it takes to turn customer service into a value engine. Michael’s been deep in the weeds: navigating outdated systems, inconsistent processes, and frustrated agents and customers alike. Through it all, he’s learned that real progress doesn’t come from slashing costs, it comes from designing experiences that work for people. Nick and Michael dig into: Why AI alone won’t save your contact center How legacy tools hold teams back—and what to do about it What happens when you listen to your frontline If you’re dealing with high turnover, clunky workflows, or wondering whether Gen AI can really make a difference, this one’s for you. Michael shares practical insights from the field, plus a few hard truths about what works and what doesn’t. Empathy, smart tech, and metrics that matter—that’s the playbook. In episode 005 of Electric Mindset, host Nick Dyment sits down with Duke Osei, an implementation consultant leading the charge on ServiceNow’s AI orchestration tools. Duke breaks it down: agentic AI isn’t just another tech upgrade. It’s a fundamental shift in how organizations handle automation, risk, and accountability. He maps it all out with a killer analogy: your org is the airport, AI agents are planes, and ServiceNow? That’s your air traffic control. Episode 004: Gen AI in Canadian Banking

Change isn’t about the newest tool. It’s about people, timing, and making every move matter. In episode 4, Gen AI in Canadian Banks, Nick Dyment and Lauren Bergstrom talk about transformation inside some of Canada’s largest banks, about what really drives change that sticks. Lauren’s take? Shiny tech doesn’t get you far without the basics. Transformation only works when people are ready. That means clear ownership, teams trained for new workflows, and governance that scales with innovation. As Gen AI quietly reshapes everything from operations to branch support, Lauren breaks down the real work behind the scenes: clean data, realistic cost models, and involving the people the tech is meant to support. No shortcuts. Just smart program design, real testing, and feedback loops that turn pilots into progress. Working through change in your world? Lauren’s playbook is a reminder: transformation is successful when people are part of the plan from day one. Want to go deeper on frameworks that work? Episode 003: The Future of Work

Remote work isn’t just a trend. It’s shaping a new era of collaboration and productivity. In the latest episode of Electric Mindset, host Nick Dyment welcomed Edward Philip, a technologist, musician, and bona fide AI whiz, to explore how organizations are adapting to this transformation. Edward shared real stories from leading virtual-first startups through the upheaval of lockdown, redesigning culture and trust for distributed teams across the globe. From implementing AI-driven developer workflows to pioneering virtual spaces where colleagues can “roast marshmallows” by a virtual fire, his experience proves that embracing the right tools is only half the battle. The most impactful change? Shifting from a culture of visibility to one of trust and outcomes, empowering teams with flexibility and holding space for true connection, even from a distance. Edward reminds us: AI tools open the door, but unleashing real productivity means championing digital literacy and reimagining how we lead. The future of work is limitless for those bold enough to rethink the rules. If you’re navigating hybrid or remote work or wrestling with how AI fits into your team’s daily flow, let’s connect.
