Stress and Suicidal Thoughts, Merrill M. Watts

Stress is a universal emotion that everyone experiences at one point or another in their lives. It is a normal physiological response to a perceived threat or demand. When we feel stressed, our bodies prepare us to either fight or take flight by releasing hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol. This can lead to physical symptoms such as increased heart rate, sweating, and heightened senses. While a little bit of stress can be beneficial as it can help us to perform under pressure, too much stress can have negative effects on our health. Chronic stress can lead to problems such as anxiety, depression, insomnia, gastrointestinal issues, and cardiovascular disease. There are a number of things that society can do to help alleviate stress. For example, employers can provide support to employees who are struggling to cope with work-related stress. This could include offering flexible working arrangements, access to mental health support, and training in stress management techniques. Individuals can also take steps to manage stress in a healthy way. This could involve exercise, relaxation techniques such as yoga or meditation, and talking to friends and family about what is causing you stress. If you are struggling to cope with stress, it is important to seek help from a mental health professional. Tune in! About the show; ***Thank you for stopping by the Elevate Him podcast. Getting Over the Pain of a Traumatic Experience

The stress and anxiety that come with a traumatic event can be overwhelming. The pain of the event can linger for years, even decades, and this is why it’s important to take time to heal and move on from the pain. The key to getting over these traumatic experiences is to embrace your own strength and power. This means being open-minded about what you want in life, living your life with passion and enthusiasm, and working towards achieving your goals. Do not try to avoid your trauma or forget it because doing so will only worsen it. Releasing the burden of past experiences through talking about them with friends, family, or a therapist is also a good idea. Learn more about how you can get help by tuning in to this episode where Eoj Johnston and Sherlyn Perryman join us. Sherlyn is an Administrative Assistant at The Miracles Club, a community recovery center. Though her roots are in Louisiana, she has spent a great amount of time in Portland. Her passion for helping others drives her to feed the homeless and volunteer at various organizations. Evangelism, Sunday school teacher, youth director, praise, and worship leader are some of the areas she has participated in her local Church. She is also an Alumni of Warner Pacific University, where she plans to receive her master's degree in the near future. Eoj Johnson, the operation manager of Miracle Club. Johnson was previously working for Central City concern, Golden West HRR program (Housing Rapid Response). At Miracle Club, he works as a supervisor over mentors who deal with people struggling with addiction. They have a recovery house, and it houses eight men and one house manager. Tune in! Responsible Fatherhood and Parenting Strategies With Eoj Johnson (part 1)

There are a lot of factors that can impact a father's ability to connect with their children, but one of the most common is penitentiary. Most fathers, when they get imprisoned, they’re denied the opportunity to bond with their children. This can result in children going to the streets or becoming rebellious towards their mother as they try to fill in for their absent father. Fathers are key figures in the lives of their children, and it is important for them to be fully involved and visible in their children’s lives. A Look at How Toxic Masculinity Affects Society

Since the beginning of time, men have been taught to be stoic, stay silent, and not express their emotions. In order to balance this out, women are also taught that it is natural for them to talk about their feelings and share their thoughts. The hope is that this would lead both sexes toward a better understanding of one another. However, this has not been the case in reality. Join the conversation with men as they share factors driving them to stay closed off, the benefits they would enjoy for opening up, and tips of when you need to open up as a man. Let's Drop the Suicide Rate Among Men with Vincent Osborne

The issue of men’s mental health is a big concern, and it is seen as a major cause of the current suicide rate. Men generally have less support and less empathy than women. This makes them more prone to negative emotions, double standards of life, and they are more likely to commit suicide, especially in our society where they are not allowed to express their feelings. No gentleman was to feel screwed up and to stay within the societal expectation; most are locked up in their emotional trauma and suffering in silence. They need help to let go and heal. Join the conversation with Vincent Osborne as he shares his life up and down, transition, and how he got into poetry in the ‘Let’s Drop Suicide Rate’ Space. Vincent is an author and a poet. He works with The Lost Poets, a poetic group of worldwide writers whose mission is to shine a light on topics that affect humanity on a wide scale. Tune in! Don’t miss out! Experiences of Men Incarcerated with OSP Inmate Theron Hall

Most prisoners are men. According to the numbers published by the Federal Bureau of Prisons (https://www.bop.gov/about/statistics/statistics_inmate_gender.jsp) (BOP), on 6th November 2021, 93.0 percent of the approximately 146,500 federal inmates are men, and only 7.0 percent are women. This gap proves that more men are getting involved in crimes and becoming incarcerated. The rehabilitation and correction given in penitentiaries are significant. However, society needs to establish support mechanisms to help them break the traumas and barriers of stigmatization. Given support, men can bounce back faster and stronger and become very instrumental figures in the community. Join the conversation with Nickole Brewster as she engages with a male inmate of Oregon State Penitentiary, who has been incarcerated for 18 years. He shares his experiences behind bars, the whole issue of rehabilitation, and how one can easily fall back into crimes right after release from prison. He also shares some thoughts about how society can help ex-convicts by setting systems such as mentors to help them get rooted back in society and educational opportunities.
