About Elevating Pikes Peak Women

Elevating Pikes Peak Women is produced by Pikes Peak Women. Our purpose is to provide a platform where women in the Pikes Peak region can become engaged and discuss civic issues about which they care deeply. We’ve provided platforms to address healthcare reform, pay equity, community innovation and investment, along with facilitating the meaningful contribution of women at all levels of business, government and community. Issues may include women’s health and safety, challenges with career and family, or the actions of politicians for or against women’s rights. While such issues may be emotionally charged, we expect and maintain civility among all. We are committed to the deliberate recruitment and support of women in leadership positions and actively work on issues that make a difference. Pikes Peak Women is an independent nonprofit, coordinated by volunteer effort. This is a two-way conversation – we’d love to hear from YOU about the topics you think are most important to women. What’s keeping you up at night? What’s blocking you from achieving your dreams? What do you want to learn more about? Please email us at pikespeakwmn@gmail.com or post on our facebook page with your story ideas and concerns. Find us interesting? Follow our podcast wherever you listen……..share with your friends. But most of all – engage and listen! We look forward to sharing intriguing and important women’s stories with you!

69: Disagree Like You'll See Them Tomorrow - Lynette Crow-Iverson on Civility in Local Politics

Civility looks different at the local level than it does in Washington. City council members don't get to fly home and put distance between themselves and the people they disagree with; they run into constituents at the grocery store and at community events. There's no green room, no press office softening the edges, just the same handful of people who have to keep working together, meeting after meeting, year after year. Colorado Springs City Council President Lynette Crow-Iverson joins us for the Civility Series to talk about what that proximity demands: what it really takes to disagree well with colleagues and constituents you'll keep seeing for years. From setting the tone in council chambers to navigating a high-stakes data center vote, this conversation is a grounded look at civility as a practice, not just a virtue. 68: The Commission That Tried: Inside LETAC's Fight for Police Accountability

In 2020, amid nationwide protests over police violence and the lingering shadow of the De'Von Bailey case, a 19-year-old shot in the back by Colorado Springs police in 2018, the city created the Law Enforcement Transparency and Advisory Commission, known as LETAC. It was supposed to give residents a meaningful voice in how their police department operated. Six years later, the commission voted to recommend its own dissolution. In this episode, we sit down with the two women who bookend that entire story. Both are community leaders and board members of Pikes Peak Women. JJ Frazier was LETAC's founding chair, appointed in the commission's earliest days, and Deb Walker served as Chairwoman at the end, presiding over the commission's final months and the vote that closed its doors.
