Episode 35: Why smart women stay stuck with Carly Evans

How often do we find ourselves saying yes to things we genuinely have no capacity or desire for, simply to keep the peace? As high-achieving women, we are constantly praised for being driven, resilient, and supportive. But when that drive is secretly fueled by a need for external validation, it leads to chronic people-pleasing, boundary degradation, and total burnout. We end up carrying around decades of unaddressed emotional weight, completely disconnected from our own core values, needs, and identities. In this episode, we sit down with Carly Evans—an ex-parole officer turned trauma coach and energy practitioner who spent nearly two decades on the frontlines of mental health and family violence intervention. Carly breaks down why so many intelligent, capable women stay trapped in survival mode and repeat unhealthy relationship patterns. We explore the reality of codependency, why mindset work alone will not fix somatic trauma, and how high achievers become prime targets for controlling dynamics. Moving from survival into genuine alignment demands more than surface-level self-care. It requires nervous system regulation, non-negotiable boundaries, and getting brutally honest about who we are when we stop pleasing everyone else. Carly shares practical, grounded steps to help us unpack our emotional suitcases, reclaim our boundaries, and step back into our authority. What you'll learn in this episode Carly's transition from 18 years as a parole officer in high-burnout environments to trauma recovery and energy coaching. The truth about emotional regulation and why society conditions us to suppress or bypass uncomfortable feelings. The "potato sack" metaphor and how unaddressed childhood experiences compound into adult burnout. Why intelligent, empathetic, and high-achieving women are uniquely vulnerable to toxic or manipulative relationship dynamics. How people-pleasing and poor boundaries stem from core beliefs of not being worthy. The 80/20 rule of healing: why 80% of recovery is somatic nervous system work and only 20% is mindset. Practical steps to identify core values, audit your true "yes" and "no", and set firm boundaries without guilt. Episode 34: Closing the gap between knowing and doing with Courtney Nightingale

Parenting toddlers and young children often feels like an endless cycle of consuming advice online only to completely lose your cool when a meltdown hits. You read the books, save the social media reels, and promise to do better, but when sleep deprivation and toddler resistance collide, intellect goes out the window. In this episode, classroom teacher of over fifteen years, parenting educator, and master NLP practitioner Courtney Nightingale joins me to break down why knowing what to do in parenting rarely translates to doing it. She explains how early childhood imprints create the subconscious triggers that drive our reactions and why strategies fail if you do not address your own unresolved stress first. I talk with Courtney about the flaws in modern gentle parenting narratives, how to set firm boundaries without becoming mean or weak, and why clear communication requires fewer words and better follow-through. She also shares practical advice on screen time, handling fussy eating, and simple tools to interrupt automatic stress responses in your home. What you'll learn in this episode How Courtney transitioned from classroom behavioral support to parent coaching and NLP practitioner work. Why parenting strategies fail when applied on top of unresolved emotional triggers. How childhood imprints formed between ages zero and seven shape your emotional reactions to your kids. The Circle of Security concept of staying bigger, stronger, wiser, and kind as an adult. Why certain gentle parenting interpretations lead to permissive habits that leave children feeling unsafe. The five-words-or-less communication rule to stop repeating yourself and enforce follow-through. How screen time impacts children's focus, behavior, and nervous system regulation. Practical steps for managing fussy eaters using the division of responsibility and a no-thank-you bowl. How to use the rubber band technique to handle conflict without forcing immediate resolution. Episode 33: 10 years of Empower House

Ten years ago, I started Empower House out of pure desperation after leaving careers in finance and collision repair. Every job application I sent out was met with complete crickets. Instead of waiting around for permission or a job offer, I backed myself, took the leap, and built my own business from scratch. A decade later, that scrappy hustle has evolved into a business model that supports total freedom, overseas travel, and raising twin girls on my own terms. Over the last ten years, I built The Brunch Club into an eight-year community running over 80 live events, sold more than 1,500 tickets, raised tens of thousands for charity, and helped female founders step onto stages that launched their careers. From managing multi-million dollar panel shops in my mid-20s to turning around a family business profit margin from 12.5% to 30% and selling it in a single weekend, my biggest takeaway is that clear systems, knowing your market, and solid execution beat guesswork every time. In this special anniversary episode, I reflect on the key milestones, hard business lessons, and tactical decisions that shaped the last decade. I share why award applications require real numbers instead of vague claims, how to design operations that suit your life, and why there has never been a better time for women to take control of their financial future. What you'll learn in this episode The real story behind starting Empower House after facing absolute job search crickets. How managing multi-million dollar smash repair shops in my 20s built my operational foundation. The exact steps I used to lift a business profit margin from 12.5% to 30% and sell it in 24 hours. Why documenting processes was the key to securing major corporate contracts like Toyota Insurance. How I grew The Brunch Club to 80+ events, 1,500 tickets sold, and tens of thousands raised for charity. Why applying for business awards requires hard numerical data instead of generic claims. The reality of running a business through major life changes, world travel, and twin toddlers. How to stop playing small, back your own ideas, and design a business that prioritises freedom.
