El nacimiento de un imperio
<p>Después de cuatro siglos de dominio colonial español, el período comprendido entre 1860 y 1898 fue testigo de una rebelión independentista, una reforma colonial, el establecimiento de los primeros partidos políticos nacionales, la abolición de la esclavitud y un breve experimento de autonomía bajo el dominio español. Sin embargo, las estrategias políticas y militares de una España en decadencia y el poder regional emergente de los Estados Unidos a fines del siglo XIX colocaron a Puerto Rico, junto con Cuba, en el centro del escenario en el Caribe. De todas las posesiones coloniales españolas en las Américas, Puerto Rico es el único territorio que no se ha descolonizado. Hasta el día de hoy, siguen las asimetrías democráticas para los habitantes de nuestro querido archipiélago, Puerto Rico.</p>
