Welcome to the Encountering the Core podcast! We are Orion Crook, LPC and Jacob Foreman, two human queers living in the Deep South. We discuss magic, art, narrative, and a variety of other curiosities through the lens of psychotherapy. We invite you to listen along as Sunshine interviews Orion about their creative and professional practices and how we might incorporate the lessons of embodied arts psychotherapy into our daily lives.
We discuss the ways that we split off from ourselves, get lost in the ether, lose touch. The ways we dissociate. And, importantly, how we might move back into ourselves and our surroundings. We discuss the relationship between time, dissociation, sexuality, gender identity, and dance floors. Tune in for a glimpse of what existence beyond dissociation, even if for a moment, may feel like.

The Birth of Mental Health
We discuss what Orion referred to as "the birth of mental health" in our first episode: awareness. We talk about the layers of awareness; begin our exploration of cognitive distortions; and discuss patterns in Jacob's romantic endeavors. This episode also features a bonus intro to deep breathing exercises (unplanned though, so maybe we'll do more of that some other time).
