About enough talk
Notes on how creative work actually gets made. Cristel Smith Aguero and Danielle Redford run the Greenhouse, a community for self-managed creatives who are finishing what they start and building sustainable income from their craft. We're talking about the real stuff that gets in the way of making the work that matters: the fear of being seen trying, the projects abandoned in folders, and what it actually takes to put work out into the world that's imperfect, process-driven, and able to propel your craft forward.

How to stop thinking your problems are unique (and how to solve them)
Yes you are special!! No, your problems are not. The ol' creative block, the stalled idea, the voice keeping you from taking a step because it's shouting that you're not qualified yet - we could fill a school bus with other creatives who've said similar thins to us in the last week alone. This week we're looking at the creative problems that can keep us feeling isolated and alone, digging into the common patterns below them. Then? We look at what we can do to solve them, because we're always better off when we learn from each other's wins and approaches. We're diving into the fantasies that keep you from breaking ground on the idea you love, what happens when your momentum hits a wall, and why imposter syndrome may be a sign you're heading in the right direction. In this episode: The two fantasies keeping your idea safe in your head - what it could be, and who you’d have to be to make it Why you need people around you who are taking risks, not just talking about them Newton’s first law for creatives: objects at rest, objects in motion, and the walls in between Why hitting a wall isn’t proof your idea was bad Too many interests? Pick a priority for now, not forever Waiting to feel qualified, and why you never will The 20 minutes in the calendar that beat a month of ‘I don’t know how’ The raccoon in a trench coat theory of imposter syndrome The discomfort threshold, and why your comfort zone is harder to leave than rock bottom Disqualifying yourself from the room before you’ve walked in Think your problem really is special? how to not discount the time you have left this year (and how much progress you can actually make with it)
Do you have a list from January sitting in a notes app you're too scared to open? If the thought of checking in on your goals for this year makes you wince a little, this episode is for you. We're talking about what happens in that last stretch of the year when momentum drops off and 'I'll get to it in January' starts to feel like a plan instead of an avoidance tactic - and why the real question isn't whether you have time left, it's whether the thing still matters to you. Because the successes of January and February actually start in October. (Cheesy, yes. True, also yes.) In this episode we're digging into how to tell the difference between genuinely changing your mind and just being afraid, why a tiny 30% version of your big idea beats waiting for the 'real' version, and how a little bit of manufactured accountability can undo months of avoidance. In this episode: Why the last quarter of the year is prime time to do your 'January reflection' early The real test for letting a goal go: has it actually stopped mattering, or are you just scared of how you'll look if you try? Finding the 30% or 50% version of the thing you've decided to save for next year - and why a small experiment now beats a big plan later Why relying on motivation is a losing bet, and how building a container (co-working, a calendar block, a person you don't want to let down) gets the work done anyway Bringing whimsy back into work that's started to feel heavy Greenhouse Core, our co-working intensive for the last stretch of the year - opens October 6th. how to take your whole self into scary new rooms (and get more out of them)
How do you respond when new opportunities to grow your craft pop up? If that shiny opportunity has ever sent you scrambling off to buy a whole new outfit or practice the perfect conversation starters, this episode is for you. We’re chatting about what happens when you walk in assuming everyone else has the secret rulebook and you're the only one who didn't get a copy - and why the real risk isn't looking silly on day one, it's leaving the reason you were invited in the first place at the door. Because the way through a scary new room isn't copying your way to belonging - it's remembering that YOU are the thing you were meant to bring. (Cheesy, yes, true, yes.) In this episode we’re digging into how to hold onto yourself in an unfamiliar environment, why curiosity beats a counterfeit version of confidence every time, and how creative courage is really just a series of small awkward moments you survive. In this episode: Why we walk in convinced everyone else is seasoned and there's a secret set of rules we alone don't know - and why that's almost always a story we're telling ourselves Two risks, and picking the right one: the risk of looking a bit silly today, versus the 3am risk of your unvoiced work and unexpressed capacity Why pretending you have the same experience quietly robs you of the chance to actually learn it - and how a genuine question (‘wow, tell me what that's like’) is the smart move, not the dumb one Code-switching vs self-erasing: how to read a room without watering yourself down to nothing Writing the list of what you want to take in with you - the warmth, the curiosity, the ‘irrelevant’ skill that turns out to be the gold Frolic around and find out: why rubbing shoulders with risk-takers is the fastest way to see that people survive - and 'joy is the fruit of well-lived grief' The one thing to do this week: keep a hold of yourself in the next unfamiliar room, and leave with more than you walked in for Sign up for updates on Fruition in the Greenhouse here (at bottom of page): https://greenhouse-creatives.com/ (https://greenhouse-creatives.com/) Find us on Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/greenhouse_creatives (https://www.instagram.com/greenhouse_creatives)

how to make the thing you keep almost making
you know the slippery idea: it's living in three apps, a voice memo from six weeks ago, and a notes doc you haven't opened since. you've talked about it, you've gotten excited about it, you've maybe even bought the domain (to add to the long list you already own!). but it's still not real. this week we get into the actual, physical act of starting - not the mindset stuff, the moves, baby. brain dumps with zero rules, chasing the fun part first, body doubling, and the slightly controversial idea that sometimes you should shut your mouth about a project instead of telling everyone. because ideas are cheap! action is expensive! in this episode: why brain dumping everything (silly ideas included) beats trying to start 'properly' divergent vs convergent thinking, and why judging your ideas too early kills them starting with the exciting part on purpose - even when it's not chronological the '52 pitches' experiment and building the muscle on low-stakes work treating your own project like a favour for a friend, not a paying client body doubling, lowering the barrier to entry, and getting the materials out why telling people your idea might be stealing your own dopamine how to have something to show before you say a word new here? Enough Talk is our free tool for creatives who are done talking about the project and ready to actually make it. five quick questions, two minutes, and we'll show you something true about what's really going on. get your audit + action plan at enough.talk (yes, that's the url). how to use micro habits to do the things that scare you
That little pull towards the pottery class, the different coffee order, the whim you keep meaning to follow and never make good on -these skipped whims matter a lot more than we're giving them credit for. This episode is about the small, unglamorous, slightly awkward things you can do every single day to remember you have autonomy + to build the muscle for the scary stuff before you need it. The courage you need every single day to turn up to your creative work does not happen magically. You build it one awkward thing you survive at a time, but there's good news: it's easier to get these reps in than you may think. Danielle and Cristel talk about why the little decisions that seem pointless are actually the whole game - and why NONE of this works if you keep waiting until you're ready. In this episode: Why micro indecision works against you - and how a pottery class or a different walk to the office quietly reminds you that you have free will Plan for consistency, then disrupt it on purpose - Cristel on Friday CEO days, Danielle on auditioning hobbies with zero pressure to become 'a person who does that' Capturing ideas badly, everywhere, without judgment - why writing it down IS developing it, even if you never look again (+ the voice-note tool Danielle swears by) The move task: the thing you most want to avoid is usually the thing standing between you and the work - scaled all the way down to calling the doctor and asking the question you don't know the word for Ya tienes el no - you already have the no, so you may as well go for the yes Seeing everyone on a level playing field: everyone was a baby, everyone still gets imposter syndrome, everyone takes a bath - and the trick of finding the one small thing you have in common The one small move to make this week, before the system is ever perfect Sign up for updates on Fruition in the Greenhouse here (at bottom of page): https://greenhouse-creatives.com/ (https://greenhouse-creatives.com/) Find us on Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/greenhouse_creatives (https://www.instagram.com/greenhouse_creatives)

how to stop disqualifying yourself before you begin
You know that dopamine hit of a brand new idea - imagining how it'll look, where you'll release it, the song that'd play over the announcement post? And then the slow dread of actually having to decide what the thing is and get on with it? This episode is about the gap between everything an idea could be and the one real version you commit to - and all the ways we count ourselves out before we even get there. Danielle and Cristel talk about why creative work isn't a matter of finding the confidence to begin, but of just GETTING ON WITH IT and beginning anyway + letting the evidence build - one survived event at a time. In this episode: Why potential feels so exciting and sexy... and why you can't actually hold it or build on it until you make a decision 'You gotta break your own heart first' - stress-testing an idea against every reason it shouldn't exist, and choosing to do it anyway How core fears (rejection, failure, judgment) disguise themselves as very reasonable excuses The confidence myth: it won't arrive like Santa down the chimney - you do the thing, and the thing gives you the evidence Cristel on her first terrifying Instagram post, and Danielle on googling herself (awkward) and finding her whole creative identity already mapped out against her will 'It's already been done' - yeah, but not by you, and why specificity is what actually creates connection The one thing to do this week to quiet all the noise and make the work you mean to Sign up for updates on Fruition in the Greenhouse here (at bottom of page): https://greenhouse-creatives.com/ (https://greenhouse-creatives.com/) Find us on Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/greenhouse_creatives (https://www.instagram.com/greenhouse_creatives)

how to take action when you're still learning
You know that feeling of looking at the thing you want to make and thinking you're just not quite ready yet? You need a little more experience, a little more knowledge, one more course, one more year. This episode is about that feeling and why we think it's LYING TO US ALL. Yes, we're pretty heated about it. This week, we're chatting about the gap between where you are and what your project requires - and what happens when you stop trying to close it before you start, and start learning to do the work while the gap is still there. Imperfect work! Out into the world! Imagine! In this episode: Why creative people are wired to zoom in on what they haven't solved yet - and forget everything they already have The difference between being genuinely new to something and just feeling like a beginner when you're not Cristel on reclaiming the word 'amateur' - and why doing something for the love of it is a legitimate reason to start Why productive procrastination can be another form of avoidance that keeps you from achieving what you want to creatively Why the messy middle bits of doing our work are actually totally necessary to the process - so maybe we shouldn't try to avoid at all costs?
