[…] What is interesting is that these batteries already being built, they have huge potentials if they're used more effectively. To put a number on this, at Ember we calculated that if the whole of China's utility scale battery energy storage is used at an optimized utilization rate, it would have shifted an additional 23 terawatt hours of electricity in 2025. So what does this 23 terawatt hours mean? This is similar to the amount of energy required to power the whole of Singapore for five months. This is not building additional batteries.
