16 - How Film Rankings Work and Why You Should Ignore Them
It's a common practice to check Rotten Tomatoes or IMDB to see if a film is worth watching. Maybe you're flipping through Amazon Prime and trying to pick a movie and you're only coming across films that have one or two stars. The thing is, movie ranking sites are not objective. They are often reviewed by straight men who tend to enjoy more masculine themes and male leading actors. We wanted to chat about how these sites work and if people should be using them. Like with all things, it's important to develop your own opinion but it's always better to do so when you have all of the information. Let us know if you use these sites and why or why not.

11 - Periods and Birth Control
Today we're talking periods and birth control! It has come to our attention that many men don't understand periods. Even young women often don't know a thing about menstruation before their first period! Our education system fails to discuss most things down there. We figured it was time someone gives you all the answers you're looking for.

9 - Body Positivity
This week we are talking about body positivity. Encouraging acceptance of self and others, regardless of body shape and size, is what we are about.
People who have a positive body image are more likely to have good physical and mental health. The effect of poor body image goes beyond occasional negative thoughts and can lead to conditions such as eating disorders and depression.
Please take care of yourself. Every part of you is beautiful and you deserve to be happy. Thanks for listening!

8 - Sexual Violence
This week we talked about sexual harassment, sexual assault, and trafficking. It might feel uncomfortable to talk about these things but it is extremely important that we do. Speak out against sexual violence whether it has happened to you or not. It is not okay. We understand if you can't listen to this. It can be triggering to many for obvious reasons. Take care of yourself. We love you.

7 - Transgender Rights are Human Rights
Thanks for tuning in! We just watched the documentary Disclosure and feel the need to talk about it. It’s an eye-opening look at transgender depictions in film and television. The documentary shows how Hollywood has manufactured our anxieties about gender. As the visibility of the transgender community increases and (sometimes) improves, the violence against these people continues. Their civil rights are being harmed. Please watch this film and visit disclosurethemovie.com for more information.

6 - Just Chilling
Welcome back to Equalitea Time! Thanks for being here. This week we are just chilling. Please check our social media pages for Black Lives Matter resources. Protest, donate, and continue to speak out against racism. We are still seeking justice for Breonna Taylor. Go to ag.ky.gov and in the drop down menu select “contact us” to send a virtual demand. Jon Mattingly, Myles Cosgrove, and Brett Hankison need to be fired and arrested. Keep fighting. If you're in a position of privilege, ADDRESS IT. White privilege is real. Thanks again for tuning in. We love you lots.

5 - A Brain Massage
With the Black Lives Matter movement happening now we didn't want to address any topics that could potentially shy away from the importance of the protests. The protests have increased Derek Chauvin's murder charge, had the other three officers charged, reopened Breonna Taylor's case, and reinvested millions into communities of color. There is so much we still need to change and improve. We can and must do better.
Today we are just chilling and trying to spend an hour allowing ourselves to laugh. If you need a little break from life, please join us. Put your mental health first but please keep fighting. The news cycle will try and move on. This whole thing will become a memory if we let it. Black people have been doing this work and fighting these fights their whole lives. They don't get to turn any of this off. Form new habits, act locally, and start holding people accountable. Be better.
Thanks for hanging out with us!

4 - White Privilege and Black Lives Matter
This week's episode is coming a little early. With everything going on we felt the need to address our white privilege and our support for the Black Lives Matter movement. It’s not too long or bubbly, but please take ten minutes to listen to it. We don't want to use this subject in any way but we felt wrong not saying anything. It’s so important to get involved. It’s not enough to just say you’re an ally, you have to do the work. We have posted tons of information and links about the movement on our social media pages. Please take care of yourselves and each other.

3 - Representation in Film
Thanks for tuning in to Equalitea Time. We went to film school together and figured it was finally time to talk a little about it. The film industry often fails women and people of color. If we don't continue to have these conversations things will never change. In this episode we cover the male gaze, the Bechdel test, and everything in between.
