[…] Those two things, the test and the standards are related, but they are not the same. And I want to name this directly because I think it matters. Most of the frustration I hear from ELL teachers around WIDA is actually frustration with the access test, the waiting for scores, the limited instructional information you get back, the way results arrive after the school year has already moved on, And that frustration is totally valid and very real. And I felt it myself. But the WIDA standards, the can-do descriptors, the PLDs, those are something entirely different. And they are significantly more useful for daily instruction than most ELL teachers realize, which is exactly what today's episode is about. […]
