You Are the Body

Discussion Questions:

1) Was there anything from the sermon or the passage that stuck out to you?

2) Two people can experience the same situation truthfully and still perceive it completely differently, like two ears hearing one sound. When have you been in a conflict where you later realized the other person was seeing something real that you couldn't see?

3) When life feels scarce or anxious, we tend to protect and love "our people" first, which is how cliques formed in the Corinthian church. Where are you tempted to love only the people you already like and call that faithfulness?

4) The disciples waited for the Spirit at Pentecost rather than launching out on their own strength and logistics. Where in your life are you serving, or avoiding serving, in your own power instead of depending on God's?

5) God often appoints us to people we would never choose, so that when breakthrough comes the credit goes to Jesus. Who is a difficult person in your life right now, and how would it change your posture toward them to see them as placed there by God?

6) Belonging to the body is where it starts, but the body only works when each part gives itself away in love, even in hidden ways no one applauds. What is one concrete, maybe unseen, way you could use what God has given you to serve someone this week?

One Body, Many Parts

Discussion Questions:

1) Was there anything from the sermon or the passage that stuck out to you?

2) Our culture prizes being self-made and self-defined, yet loneliness keeps rising. Where have you felt the tension between wanting to define yourself and needing community to know yourself?

3) Paul says no one can say "Jesus is Lord" except in the Holy Spirit, and that this confession is meant to be ongoing, not one and done. What would it look like for you to confess Jesus as Lord over a specific area of your life this week?

4) Verse 11 says the Spirit apportions gifts to each one individually as He wills. How do you respond when God gives someone else a gift or a season you wanted for yourself?

5) The foot and the ear in the passage doubt they belong because they are not the hand or the eye. When have you felt too different to belong in church, and what helped, or what would have helped?

6) Paul says the parts that seem weaker are indispensable and should receive greater honor. Who around you might feel overlooked or misunderstood, and what is one concrete way you could honor them this week?

Stand Firm

Discussion Questions:

1) Was there anything from the sermon or the passage that stuck out to you?

2) Paul says our struggle is not against flesh and blood but against spiritual powers. Who is someone you have been tempted to treat as the enemy, and how does verse 12 reframe that relationship?

3) Good things like money, causes, and even religious freedom can quietly become gods when we look to them for salvation. What good thing in your life is most at risk of becoming a bad god?

4) Every piece of the armor is something God provides rather than something we produce. Which piece of the armor in verses 14 through 17 do you most need to put on right now?

5) The command Paul repeats is to stand firm, not to charge, because the victory already belongs to Christ. Where in your life have you been exhausting yourself trying to win a battle that Christ has already won?

6) Paul ends the letter by calling the church to pray at all times, with the urgency of soldiers in a battle. What would need to change for your prayer life to carry that kind of urgency?
