El campesino y el árbol (Leyendas del pueblo Maya)
<p>Se dice que los árboles llegaron a tierras mayas con una misión susurrada por los Dioses.</p> <p>El que es parte de esta historia, lleva por nombre Ciricote. </p> <p>Es un árbol caducifolio mediano de flores amarillo-rojizas que llega a crecer entre 12 y 30 m. de altura. Tronco recto y cilíndrico de corteza rugosa y color gris, con ramas que crecen en forma ascendente, copa redondeada o piramidal, muy densa y redondeada en árboles jóvenes, menos densa en árboles maduros (mayores de 15 años). Hojas simples verde oscuro en el haz y pálidas en el envés, muy ásperas y rasposas en el envés. Flores anaranjadas o rojizas. Los frutos son cónicos a redondeados, carnosos y se vuelven amarillos al madurar y tienen un solo hueso. </p> <p>Generalmente se cultiva con fines de ornamentación; además, su madera se usa para la fabricación de muebles y como remedio casero contra resfriados; su fruta es comestible y sus hojas se usan con fines de limpieza. Originario de América desde el sur de México hasta el norte de Guatemala y Belice, habita en todo Yucatán. </p> <p>Vive en selvas húmedas y secas. Se utiliza como árbol de ornato, sus frutos son comestibles en almíbar, sus hojas rasposas se utilizan para lavar trastos. </p> <p><br></p>
