4) Kohi and the crisis by Eduard Mucha

Kohi is a local Karlsruhe culture center started by local Kalrsurhe culture enthusiasts. The direction of Kohi from its starting point always came intrinsically, it was not a reaction to funding or a centralized program for culture centers. Kohi never really looked elsewhere for inspiration on how it proceeded, it just moved forward autonomously with its own initiative. In the digital age, that’s been forced onto culture centers around the country through the corona virus, some innovation and forward thinking was necessary; adapt or die. The Kohi leaders didn’t hesitate, they didn’t wait for instruction or just fill criteria for grants, they innovated, they dived into the unknown. Leading by example is an effective way to create movement when exploring new creative space. I sat down with two of the core members of Kohi, two of the most well known leaders of Kohi, and discussed how Kohi played a leadership role by being a shining example for approaching this new landscape. An example of leadership in uncertainty being more about innovation and creative thinking than a standard expression of power. The example of Kohi also asks an interesting question about flat power dynamics (as described when talking about the way Kohi is organized) and if they allow more room for innovation and creativity.
