Dr Constantina Charalambous will interview Dr Dimitra Karoulla on Linguistics in an attempt to reveal wrong popular beliefs about Linguistics and the ways Linguistics associates with people’s everyday life. There will be brief references with examples to illustrate subdisciplines of Linguistics such as Morphology, Phonetics, Phonology, Syntax, Semantics, Sociolinguistics, First and Second Language Acquisition, Pragmatics, Language Change and Language Universals. In general the discussion will link Linguistics to society, identity, education, communication, globalisation and other aspects of human life”.

Η δύναμη της μουσικής για τον άνθρωπο, ειδικότερα στη βρεφική ηλικία
Για να κατανοήσουμε τη σημαντικότητα της μουσικής στη ζωή των ανθρώπων και ειδικότερα στην ανάπτυξη των βρεφών, ας αναλογιστούμε τι είχε πει ο πασίγνωστος Βρετανός νευρολόγος Dr. Oliver Sacks: «Η μουσική έχει την ικανότητα να ενεργοποιεί περισσότερες εγκεφαλικές περιοχές από οποιοδήποτε άλλο ερέθισμα». Η μουσικότητα είναι έκδηλη από τη βρεφική ηλικία και αποτελεί κοινωνική-πολιτισμική πράξη που ικανοποιεί την ανάγκη των βρεφών να επικοινωνήσουν με τα άτομα γύρω τους συνδυάζοντας μουσική και γλώσσα. Μέσα από τα βαβίσματα, τις κινήσεις, τις μελωδικές και ρυθμικές εκφράσεις, τα βρέφη αφηγούνται όσα δεν μπορούν να εκφράσουν γλωσσικά. Η μουσική αλληλεπίδραση βρεφών και ενηλίκων/φροντιστών είναι εξαιρετικά σημαντική για τη φυσιολογική ανάπτυξη και εξέλιξη των βρεφών. Αποτελέσματα σύγχρονων ερευνών καταδεικνύουν ότι η χρήση της μουσικής στη βρεφική ηλικία, αποτελεί ουσιαστικό εργαλείο για την ανατροφή του παιδιού: ρυθμίζει τη συναισθηματική του κατάσταση (το ηρεμεί, χαλαρώνει, ανακουφίζει), υποστηρίζει την καθημερινή φροντίδα του, το βοηθά να αναπτύξει ισχυρούς δεσμούς με τους γύρω του προσφέροντας του ασφάλεια, και υποστηρίζει την ευημερία του. Καλλιεργώντας κουλτούρα δια βίου άσκησης και σωματικά εγγράμματους πολίτες
Η Φυσική Αγωγή είναι μάθημα στα αναλυτικά προγράμματα από το νηπιαγωγείο μέχρι και το λύκειο, τόσο του δημοσίου, όσο και του ιδιωτικού σχολείου. Θα ήταν αναμενόμενο ότι με την αποφοίτηση από το λύκειο, οι μαθητές και μαθήτριες θα γνώριζαν και θα εφάρμοζαν όσα έμαθαν στο μάθημα της Φυσικής Αγωγής με τον ίδιο τρόπο που γνωρίζουν να γράφουν, να διαβάζουν, να εκφράζουν ιδέες, να είναι επαρκείς στα μαθηματικά και την εφαρμογή τους. Οι έρευνες όμως δείχνουν ότι η Κύπρος κατέχει αρνητικές πρωτιές στην υποκινητικότητα, στη παχυσαρκία. Τι φταίει τελικά; Θα μπορούσε η Φυσική Αγωγή να γίνει μέσο ουσιαστικής καλλιέργειας κουλτούρας δια βίου άσκησης; Χρειάζονται αλλαγές στον τρόπο που διδάσκεται το μάθημα; Ποιος ο ρόλος του Καθηγητή Φυσικής Αγωγής στη προσχολική και πρωτοβάθμια εκπαίδευση; Τι θα μπορούσε να γίνει εντός και εκτός σχολείων; Ομιλητές: Δρ.
