[…] But as more consumers and companies want access to machine learning applications, the need for more time and energy efficient machine learning hardware is increasing. So, what's the problem? Well, AI and machine learning require large amounts of computing power. But the hardware we rely on now isn't optimized for AI. Graphics cards were designed for processing images, not running complex machine learning algorithms. Moreover, AI applications, especially machine learning, are very energy hungry. We're talking about huge data centers that need massive amounts of power to keep AI models running. In fact, Microsoft recently announced plans to restart a nuclear plant just to power its AI operations. […]
