ep 11: The Relationship Container - awareness, expansion, and are we really just complicated plants?

In episode 11, Cam and Beth talk about their recent awareness of feeling (and thinking) about the relationship container being like a potted plant. They've both experienced a lot of growth recently and are finding the need to create spaciousness in a new and larger container. With this new insight, they look back at past relationships through the same lens and seeing how little awareness there was around this topic. When expansion and growth are happening, what happens if the container doesn't change? What can happen if there's a new bigger pot, some fresh soil and added room to grow? They acknowledge that like plants, people don't all need the same things and don't grow at the same rates. It can be helpful to look at and discuss with your partner, what kind of plant are you? What space might be needed for two fast growing plants that are having all their resource needs met? Is one of the partners (or both) keeping themselves small because they feel the confinement of the current relationship container? All great things to ponder. And maybe identifying with a plant doesn't work. Maybe an aquarium or refrigerator or any other container you can think of that works better for you. Enjoy! ep 10: Our Blueprint for Our Weekly “Business” Meeting

In episode 10, Cam and Beth talk about their weekly check-ins that they call "business meetings". You could call yours whatever you want, but the value of the weekly check-in is extraordinarily powerful and compounds on itself. The outline for Beth and Cam's meetings is this: Wins from the previous week - they start out with the biggest things that felt really good, really celebrate what felt like it went well. Maybe it was something from the to do list, or maybe something unexpected. Timing - what feels off, not it, needs a pause, is feeling avoided, is there a sense of procrastination, any or none of the above To Do List - the practical nuts and bolts of the things they want to do, either solo or together What feels particularly exciting - from the to-do list or something else. It is a way to really harness that upbeat energy leaving the meeting and going off into the week. There is often a mid-week (Thursday or Friday) check-in if it feels helpful. Sometimes it is a great way to be accountable, sometimes it just isn't needed if everything feels on track, but the check-in about the check-in is sometimes all that's needed. Then the next week it starts all over again - the Wins from the previous week's to do list or other, what maybe felt off, another do list, sometimes carried over from the previous week or sometimes all new - this is always a chance to reevaluate, and then once again, what feels exciting coming up. It's not unlike the critique/feedback formula of the positive compliment, constructive feedback, and another compliment. It is a brand new practice for them, not something they've done in a relationship before, and they have found it works really well for them. They encourage listeners to try something similar for their partnerships, in whatever way works for them. Maybe it is only a monthly meeting, maybe their topics or blueprint is different. While Beth is hesitant to ever give specific advice or recommendations, this practice is on their short list of things they encourage people to at least try in a way that works for them. It's powerful to show up together consistently, based upon a mutual agreement, not only when there is an issue but as a way to also preemptively address anything that may have surfaced and not been talked about yet. The structure of a "business meeting" complete with notebooks and calendars helps add a little structure to their usual casual and free-flowing ways of operating.
